Customer Reviews

Not for music, very soft & comfortable, hard to put in earsI bought these hoping for effective, comfortable, and the least obtrusive ear plugs. I got two out of three. For the purpose I'm using them for, which is to reduce the decibels of my band, I found them to reduce the decibels, but not in a good way. I have tried all of the different filters and none of them produce a good musical result. Too much of "something" is take away. These are very soft, which makes them a lot more comfortable compared to other ear plugs I've used. This flexibility of the ear plug unfortunately makes them hard to push into the ear to get a good seal. They include a tool that assist in placing the ear plug in your ear, however, if plan to use the string that attaches to each ear plug so that the ear plugs can stay together, then the tool that helps push them into your ear won't work. It pushes on the string connector rather than the ear plug. I like having the string attached to the ear plugs so I can hang them around my neck when not in my ears and also to keep from easily losing them. But I do not use the string because I can't get these ear plugs in my ears without the tool. They are small and less obtrusive than other ear plugs.Bottom line for me is that these just do not sound good when listening to music. I have had success with the Etymotic Research ER20 and will stick with them for now. 3Great on airplanes!I use the MusicSafe Classic earplugs while napping on airplanes!I work as a flight attendant who flies long-haul routes on airplanes. While you get used to the ambient noise, it's nice to have a quiet environment during crew rest breaks. While the air plugs do not completely block noise, it diminishes ambient airplane noise greatly. These are simple to put on, and they drown out airplane noise! I've also used them while traveling as a passenger and I pretty much forgot I had them on as I napped, read or enjoyed a much quieter flight. 5My Favorite Non-Custom Ear Plugs!I bought these to put in my gig bag because my old Alpine Classic earplugs were worn out from years of use for gigs, working with power tools, loud environments, etc. I still keep my old Alpine earplugs in my car for emergencies, while this Pro system stays in my gig bag.I've used Etymotic and foam earplugs, but these are the plugs I keep coming back to. They're comfortable, form a good seal in my ears, don't move around when you're active, and don't make you feel like an alien with antennas sticking out of your ears. I really like having the different grades of protection, allowing you to tweak the scale of attenuation depending on the situation. Going from the Classic (2 levels) to Pro (3 levels), that extra flexibility is all the more appreciated. It would be nice if they released flesh colors, but they're flush enough with your ears that they're not all that noticeable anyways.Attenuation is not flat, mostly because it changes the way sound gathers in your ear. Your inner ear hearing will be more prominent with ear plugs, so it takes some getting used to especially if you're singing. I recommend keeping them in as much as possible at the gig so you get used to the way they sound and don't adversely affect your performance. There are some key differences comparing the "Pro" to the "Classic" version that may dictate which version you should go for.The Classic (Silver/Gold) case is a tube that opens on one end and you throw stuff into it and dump it out when you want to get access to it. The tube is wonderfully compact and can comfortably live on your keychain and/or in your pocket, but it also has a tendency to rattle as you walk with the pegs loose in the chamber. The tube is also air-tight, which means nasty things are more capable of growing on them over time, especially if you don't let them dry before putting them away after a sweaty gig. Finally, the narrow tube makes it more likely for the silicon ear buds to get stuck, meaning time wasted wrestling the buds out of the case. The Pro (White/Silver/Gold) case is a box--rather than a tube--with a funky hinge mechanism that opens one of the larger faces of the box. The wider case and opening means it's much easier to access your plugs and accessories. The pegs have dedicated mount holes, eliminating the rattling problem that the tube has, and there's no chance of plugs getting stuck in the case. The design isn't 100% airtight like the tube, which means things will stay a little cleaner. The only downside is that it's much larger than the tube, making it less comfortable to keep in your pocket. The Pro version comes with a neckband that connects to your earplugs, which means you don't have to find some place to stash them--and likely lose them--when you're not playing. The neckband attachment system is not very secure (if you yanked on the band with the plugs in your ears, it'd probably come off the plugs), but it's an improvement over no neckband at all. The Pro seems to be made of better materials than the Classic, though that may just be because they're so much newer than my Classics. Finally, I like that the Pro comes with a 3rd plug, just in case you accidentally lose one you can still have both ears protected for the rest of the gig. These ear plugs come with my highest recommendations! The only thing that may be better would be custom-molded plugs, but I don't have any experience with those to draw on.====UPDATE 2019/01/15====Over a year later and these earplugs are still working wonderfully. I bought a second pair to store in my cello case for rehearsals with wind players. For New Years Eve, I brought these along for my girlfriend and I to use in case the music was too loud. It was WAY too loud, but these earplugs saved the night. Instead of awkwardly hanging out in quieter places of the venue for 30 minutes and then calling it a night, these earplugs allowed us to wander freely and comfortably and even hit the dance floor, resulting in an overall great night out and getting to welcome the New Year together! Great for ears, and great for relationships!!! 5and the music sounded good (not an audiophile but I do know how badly ...I wore them in a club the other night that was insanely loud (phone measured 101db, most clubs are 93-95db and that is loud). I did not realize how loud it was because I put them in before going inside. At one point the people I was with complained how loud it was. I pulled the ear plug out and everyone was surprised because they had no clue I was wearing them.Quality: I was able to hear every conversation without them screaming in my ear, and the music sounded good (not an audiophile but I do know how badly music sounds with "regular" earplugs). I still had a small amount of ringing in my ear after leaving the club but nothing like what I normally would without ear plugs. I think the club was louder than most if it's louder than 100db I think I'll use foam plugs anyway. In the 90db range these are great. 5very good in the right conditionsWore them to see Ride the other night. I had installed the gold filter and didn't take the others with me. I felt like gold attenuated things a bit too much. So I'll try the silver ones next time. The drums and guitars came through OK but the vocals were pretty much blocked out. Part of that might have been the sound mix and odd acoustics of the venue. I felt like these weren't all that much different or better than the simple foam earplugs I've worn in the past.Edited to add:Used them for a second show in a different venue and the difference was very immediately noticed. I replaced the gold filters with the silver. In a venue with great sound and state of the art systems these did a fantastic job. I've no doubt this show (One OK Rock) was quite loud. These plugs did exactly what I wanted them to do. The cut out over loudness and allowed for me to clearly hear the show. Vocals were perfectly clear. Guitars and drums also came through exactly as you'd expect. 5Immediately returned. small and low quality manufactuingImmediately returned these. These are tiny and fit deeper in the ear than I want them to.The quality control is pretty sad. the filters do not fit into the holes for them in the filter case without jamming them in.The squishy part looks like it was cut with a pair of scissors rather than manufactured. 2Alpine Hearing Protection MusicSafe Classic Earplugs for MusiciansWow. I am impressed. I bought a pair of these for my wife and for me to use at a blues festival. When we got to the festival, the music was so loud that we immediately decided to use the gold filters. [Hence this review pertains to the gold filters only.] We were about 75 feet in front of the stage and the sound was so loud that it was vibrating my shirt and pants. However, with the ear plugs inserted, I was able to hear the music clearly and without distortion. (There were times when the bass was a little muddled but I think that was at least partly because the mix on stage was off.) For example, I was able to hear details like the drummer brushing the hi-hat and the pick hitting the guitar strings. There were a few times when the ear plugs shifted...maybe as I was talking and such...so I just gently rotated them in my ear to achieve a proper seal again and I was all set. I highly recommend these. Just practice inserting them first before you get to the venue so that you know what a proper seal feels...and sounds....like. 5Comfortable and versatileAlpine MusicSafe earplugs are the most comfortable and effective models for my ears. I've been a professional DJ, musician, and vocalist for three decades, and also attend concerts of all sorts and sizes on a weekly basis. Along the way, I've tried every over-the-counter earplug made, including wax, foam, and other silicon products (Etymotic / Hearos). The heat-sensitive Alpine silicone means they adapt themselves to your ear canal after insertion, so fit nice and snug without getting painful (more on sizing below). They are also the only ones that allow me to use different inserts to alter the attenuation, which is fantastic: it just never made sense to use the same plugs at an intimate, indoor acoustic show and a full-blown stadium rock concert. As another review spoke to size problems, I'll share that I have not had any size problems. In fact, the Alpines are the best fit I've come across in a non-custom earplug / earbud. To help you figure out whether they are a good fit for you, if ears had sizes, mine would be medium: with Etymotics / Hearos earplugs, the large ones begin to hurt sooner, and the small ones need to be pressed in pretty far for a snug fit; with my Shure SE 535 earbuds, I use the mid-sized silicon spheres. Finally, a word about the insertion tube, as reviews of other Alpine earplugs here and elsewhere have mentioned that, too: I have found the insertion tube to be entirely unnecessary. If you are adept at inserting other sorts of earplugs by hand, especially silicon models, you may not need the insertion tube at all. I throw mine away when opening the packaging.Alpine earplugs may not be for everyone, but they are certainly the earplugs I've been waiting for all these years: you'll need to spend 10 times as much on a custom set to do any better, and for my ears, the difference is barely noticeable. 5They Work! Confusing Reviews and Instructions. Before I ordered the Alpine Partyplugs, I read the reviews here. I didn't realize the reviews covered all models of Alpine plugs. I assumed mine would arrive with interchangeable gold and silver filters, as so many reviewers discussed. They did not. So keep that in mind when reading the reviews. That said, the plugs were delivered on time. When I first attempted to insert the plugs using the tool, I could not get them in at all. This went on for some time, even with my wife helping. Using the tool was painful, and other than once or twice, the tool would not do the job. Apparently I have very small ear canals, and the tool was making the plug larger than what would comfortably fit. Then I tried inserting without the tool, simply pushing in with my finger. Viola! Works quickly and easily, every time. They stay in, and I have no problem removing them... no tool needed. Now, the reason for five stars. I put them to the "acid test" last night, and they absolutely worked. My wife and I love a local rock band that also happens to be extremely loud. So loud, that it was scaring me as my left ear would " hum" for 2 or 3 days after! We sat up front last night, in front of the speakers, and today, no ear problems! The music sounded great, as always. Yes, conversation was a bit muffled, but not bad.The plugs came with a small case. But be careful not to lose them... they're small! They're clear, and not noticeable in my ear. The Alpine Partyplugs work wonderfully for me. That said, ears come in all shapes and sizes. So your mileage may vary. If they didn't work for me last night, I would have returned them. But for me, they're a five star product. 5Better than EtymoticsI rarely write reviews but I had to for this product. I am a DJ/music producer and it's very important for me to protect my hearing. I tried a number of ear plugs, including disposable foam ones and Etymotic ER20, and found them uncomfortable and affected sound quality to the point that I didn't wear ear plugs to shows. I couldn't enjoy music with them in. The Alpines on the other hand are very comfortable. I can wear them for hours on end. Music still sounds good with them in, just more quiet. These are so good that I wear them everywhere I go to keep my peace and quiet. They're useful for public transit, general city noise, etc. Everything sounds the same, but brought down to a quiet, comfortable level. The interchangeable filters are useful, although I usually just use the medium filter. The only downside is that it's harder to hear conversations. Other earplugs change the dynamics of the sound to make it easier to hear conversation, but these bring everything down equally, so it's not as easy to have a conversation. Additionally, the included keychain is flimsy and hard to use. A small price to pay for enjoyable, comfortable music experiences. 5
