Excellent mate. Dont brew it in a coffee pot.Best yerba mate available. Unsmoked ensures you don't get all the nasty carcinogens that have been found in the smoked versions. Its VERY IMPORTANT to know that this won't brew properly in the coffee pot! The leaf is not soaked in the water for long enough. You need to either brew it in a french press, with a small tea ball, or in a pot (large batch). I brew 1.5 TBSP per 8 oz of water instead of the recommended amount. Put the cold water and mate in the pot, stir until all the mate is hydrated. Turn the heat on to 3/4 full and when the water reaches a boil, turn the heat off. Let it cool for 30 min or so then bring to a boil again, then take it off the burner to sit and cool for a couple of hours. Strain with a large mesh screen into a pitcher and put in the fridge.I usually brew it with 4 bags of blueberrry tea and 2 orange/ginger tea bags, gives it a nice zing.5EXCELLENT TEA...KEEP IT COMING!!!I ve purchases this Yerba Mate tea two twice and its delicious...it has a smooth earthy taste but not bitter at all or over powering. I add a little honey to sweeten and sometimes I make it with fresh boiled ginger water. I also drink this tea on fasting day's... its very satisfying. I m drinking it now as I m writing this review. I may have already written a five star review, but I m writing another after seeing another reviewers displeasure with the tea. Keep it coming!Hope5Best Yerba Mate tea out there!I love this tea! I was recommended Yerba Mate to substitute coffee and after a lot of research, I settled on this tea and it works amazingly! There's no crash on the caffeine thankfully! Coffee was giving me heart palpitations with its quick surge in caffeine. The Yerba Mate provides a subtle increase on energy from the caffeine and has a slow coming down from the caffeine. It's subtle and there's not an immediate loss of energy. The only time I feel it heartwise is if I down a huge thing of tea in 1 minute or less, and even then I've not experienced the extreme of the heart palpitations from coffee from this tea thankfully!!!Observationally it's a little grassy in taste to me, but it doesn't taste bad at all. This tastes better than any other version I've tried since then. Basically just a little more herb-y version of green tea basically. Multiple friends have taken baggies and love this tea, I could not recommend this any more than I could!5I always end up back at Eco Teas for their loose leaf variety because the cost is fantastic and the taste is really goodI drink Yerba Mate Tea (both hot and cold) and have tried plenty of other brands and types. I always end up back at Eco Teas for their loose leaf variety because the cost is fantastic and the taste is really good. Yerba Mate has so many health benefits including being jammed packed with antioxidants and stomach digestive benefits. The reason why I love it is because it picks you up and gets you going like coffee but does not have the crash at the end. I brew mine in a coffee press and then depending on how I am going to prepare it (i.e. hot or cold) I will add either honey or Agave to sweeten it. A quick tip for anyone who is new to Yerba Mate: use a good amount of the tea so that you get a nice strong flavored tea, especially if you are trying to kick a coffee habit (like I was) and want a strong tasting, equally stimulating beverage. Mine comes out with a strong amber/caramel color, and somedays when I really want a kick it comes out brown. Also, make sure when you pour the tea into your press that you add a little bit of cold water to it to let the leaves soak and prepare for the hot water. The tea leaves are very powdery and dry, and the water helps to bring them back to life (or so to speak) Failure to do so might create a burnt taste that will lessen the enjoyment of your drink. In the end, I give it 5 stars because of the cost and the fact that it does its job. There are more expensive better tasting teas out there, but if you drink as much tea as I do and you don't want to take out a second mortgage on your house, buy THIS tea.5What can I do with a package of tea that is totally open? This is my favorite brand of Mate tea but before I even opened my package there were tea leaves coming out of the mailing package. There were actual leaves in the mail box. When I opened the package the tea bag was open completely. I can not return it and am afraid to use it because it1Not the best, but decentI usually drink Inato brand Mate; it is currently unavailable so I decided to try this. It's decent. Compared to Inato, Ecoteas Mate is less fresh and clean, earthier, and more bitter; upsets my stomach just a bit. But it's cut well, with minimal stems. Basically it's the difference between a tea grown traditionally in the jungle vs. a tea grown in ideal conditions on a plantation. So I'll stick with Inato when available, but this is an OK second choice. Another OK second choice is Tealyra brand Mate(their only decent product in my opinion). For reference I use a slightly rounded tablespoon with 500ml water, and steep for 5 minutes at 175* F.4Tastes muskyI gave 2 stars, 1 each for packaging and shipping. I ordered this because the brand I usually order was out of stock and I was not sure when it would be in. I figured it's always a good idea to have a "back up brand" just in case anyway... and what I learned from THIS purchase is that THIS particular yerba mate product is not going to (ever) be my "back up brand" LOL XD The packaging was fabulous; no leaks or tears as other buyers mentioned in the reviews I read BEFORE I proceeded to purchase it. Furthermore, the product was shipped and received so fast! It just tasted SO MUSKY, all by itself, YUCK! I'm used to a fresh "green" taste...and color--this brand didn't even REMIND me of what I'm used to, not even in the tiniest bit in regards to flavor alone lol and so I mixed other (stronger loose-leaf tea in with it (much more tea to yerba ratio)) in order to blend out the terrible baughy taste of this yerba lol--because, I didn't want to waste it--though I suppose tossing it into the compost pile wouldn't be "wasting" it entirely...I stopped drinking it entirely after a few rounds of my (rather unsuccessful) "blend"...kept checking the status of my favorite brand until it finally came in and ordered EXTRA, in case it happens again...and oh yeah...I ALSO ordered my own yerba plant XD I've purchased so much stuff through Amazon--this is my FIRST review--I wanted/anticipated this product to be similar to what I'm used to--felt it my duty to mention "OMG it's so not XP"2Best Yerba Mate BrandI've been drinking this brand for several years now. It's organic and unsmoked. I lost a lot of weight drinking it (replacing diet soda). I inspired a lot of the women in my office to start drinking it. They like it with lemon or honey but I prefer it plain and iced. The only downside is that it is very fine but that's fixable. I've found using an IngenuiTEA brewer eliminates any stray bits from making it into your cup.5Enjoyed the taste and effectsI was trying to get off of coffee for some time now and I chose midterms week as the time to do this (lol). So I ordered this Yerba Mate as a alternative to coffee since it states there is a good amount of cafeine in it. I'm not going to lie, there is not as much cafeiene in it as coffee so I do tend to get sleepy around my 10th hour of work. I wanted to get off of coffee to get rid of bad breath, yellowing teeth and the coffee crash in the afternoons. I have been eating a bit healthier and drinking this Yerba Mate tea that I make in the mornings in my Ninja coffee bar and have lost a good amount of weight already. I have liked the results from Yerba Mate thus far. I can see this being a long-term morning drink for me :) Hope this helps!5Totally delivers if you like the taste! This is not a major comparative mate review, although this mate is generally well-reviewed on the web. This is just about drinking this mate for a few weeks after drinking various forms of tea -- black, green, oolong -- for decades. First, it seems true that green mate delivers caffeine without jitters or letdown. This has to do with its antioxidant profile, which is higher than that of green tea. It elevates mood in a somewhat different way, creating positivity without an edge. It's still caffeine, so I found that about two cups a day is enough. Second, the taste. It was a little different or intense at first but I've made lots of "bitter" medicinal teas over the years and it grew on me very quickly. Kind of like, Hey wait, this is really good. I was kind of surprised. There's a lot of latitude about the level of brightness or bitterness. This can be controlled by the brewing temperature. Lower temp water means less bitterness. The package says 170 degree water, some people say 160. At 160, there's zero bitterness. Anyway, I got this in the height of August heat, and started brewing it cold because more heat was out of the question. Cold-brewed overnight, this is really bright up front, with a nice roundness to finish, and totally refreshing. I loved it, 10 out of 10. I gave it to a friend who was over, they loved it, but they've also done various bitter teas over the years. If you've made cold brewed tea, it's just different, it takes longer but flavors happen that aren't part of hot brewed tea. To get the same quality from a hot water brew, I've had to go to water just off the boil. It's not the same, but close. I like it much better than the 160-170 mate. Third, mate has a culture, and you can find out a reasonable amount about different brands from different countries, and somewhat what they taste like, although this is *really* personal, online. Update: I recently tried Guayaki organic for comparison woth something more widely marketed. This one has stems in it, and is milder or softer overall. For me, I'll be sticking with the Ecoteas version for the depth and sprightliness of the flavor.5
