I want to say this product is amazing but DO NOT buy itI want to say this product is amazing but DO NOT buy it. I used it once and it was amazing, very strong, and a bunch of different options. I went to use it a second time a week later (still fully charged) and it wouldn't even turn on. Who cares if the manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty if it only works once. I have issues with my neck and shoulder and was thinking about using the product all day and it was a complete letdown when I couldn't even get it to turn on. 1Great relief + they stand behind their warranty!I bought this in 2015 and in 2018 the digital read-out had lost some of it's lines making the time difficult to see. I sent the company a message through Amazon and they replaced it with a new unit. They stand behind their warranty! I love the different modes, the ease of placing the electrodes, the lightweight unit and how it helps with my pain. I have arthritis in my neck and low back from a car accident 35 years ago and this has provided so much relief throughout the years. A friend had purchased his on Amazon and let me try it. Afterward I immediately bought mine. SO happy with it! One last note: my friend bought this in 2014 and has had no problems with his to date. 5Lots of power but lacks longevity.Purchased this April 15, 2015, unit failed January 24, 2017.PROS:-Unit has duel independent pads and controls-Unit can deliver intense stimulation (others I have tried are barely sufficient at their max setting but this unit I never went more than half way)-Longer than expected battery life-8 different programs to select from-Long timer (many other units top out at 30 minutes)-Long lasting pads (even when they start to age they can be used with higher intensity which extends their usefulness before needing replacement)CONS:-The usb charge cable is USB mini. The connector is so outdated I didn't have another USB mini cable so I had to carry the charge cable with me everywhere.-Cannot use (or even power on) while charging-Charge cable is very short (about 2 feet long) which was inconvenient.-Controls are a little awkward and unclear at first but I was able to get used to them eventually.-Noticed that at moderate/higher intensities the signal from one output would cross over to other pads if connected.-Display icons are hard to understand. I gave up trying to know which Icon represented the appropriate program and would just cycle through until found program that gave relief-Screen turns off after program ends and the only way to turn it back on to start a new program is to turn the device off and then back on.-Despite coming with 2 sets of pads the box only contained 1 card to hold the pads so I ended up using an old plastic insurance card to hold my second set of pads when not in use.-Noticed that at moderate/higher intensities the signal from one output would cross over to other pads if connected.-Part of the screen just stopped working 19 months in (did not drop, crack, smash or otherwise cause impact to the screen or device)I really enjoyed this unit while it lasted for the most part, a wide variety of programs, with the ability to set each pad set to different programs, and a very high level of intensity available at my finger tips made this unit very useful. Also the long lasting battery went a long way to making up for the inconvenient charge cable. I cannot stress how nice the intensity is when compared to some other units; my wife often borrowed my HealtmateForever unit when she was really sore because her TENS unit just couldn't deliver the intensity we both liked sometimes. The controls are not self explanatory but with a little time my wife and I both got use to them.I paid just over $150 dollars for this unit and probably my biggest complaint is that it did not even last 2 years. If it had been priced under $50 dollar range then the relatively short life span of the product wouldn't have bothered me so much, but for comparison my wife purchased a different brand almost 18 months before I bought this one and hers is still going like new to this day and she only paid $40 for her unit.HealthmateForever does offer a 2 year protection plan if you find out about it within time to purchase it, but priced at $100.00 it is honestly too expensive. By comparison I got a 2 year warranty (with Accidental Damage protections on a $600 laptop for $98. My only guess for the disparate price is either these units have a high failure rate, a poorly thought out warranty plan, or simply an alternate revenue stream for HealthmateForever.I probably wouldn't buy this product again just because the high price compared to the short lifespan. I REALLY liked the unit while it lasted and might consider buying it again (despite the price) if I could get a 3-4 year replacement plan on it for under $50, or if the unit it self was just priced in the $50-$60 price range. 3Comparison between the healthmate Pro8AB and Roscoe Medical Intensity Select Combo II: Update - it broke!I had a Roscoe Medical Select Combo II which broke after 8 months, and while waiting for a replacement, I bought this device. It does some things great, but has other flaws. I looked at these two TENS units because they had several features that I needed. I have back shoulder pain in multiple locations, and I wear a TENS unit 8+ hours a day, so I needed something small, with a rechargeable battery that would last the day. I also wanted something with many settings, since (as I found out) different types of pain (muscular, nerve) at different locations in your body need different settings. In fact, the first time I used a TENS unit, it took 4 days before I found the correct settings and locations of the pads on my body that worked for my pain. This probably isn't as important for people who are looking for massages, but it does matter for pain relief.PROS:Size: The Pro8AB is very small. Can fit in your pocket and not create a bulge. The Select Combo II is over twice as thick. and very bulky. The Pro8AB doesn't have a belt clip but you don't need one. The Select Combo II does have a belt clip that you can remove.Ease of use: Both have there quirks. The select combo II will allow you to turn on the TENS unit for sessions of up to 90 minutes. And when it turns off and you turn it back on, its already set for 90 minutes, so you just need to press start to begin again. The Pro8AB only allows settings as long as 60 minutes, and every time the device shuts off, it resets to a 10 minute default. Also, the Pro8AB has power levels from 1 to 20 (i believe) where the select combo II goes from 1 to 99. And for the Pro8AB, I only use a level of 3-5 (I'm a thin person). Don't know who would use the high settings, but this configuration prevents you from really tuning in the power level. On the select combo II I would usually use around a 24, and I could estimate my pain level on a day to day basis by seeing what level I had to turn the TENS unit on to eliminate the pain. This is a big negative for the Pro8ABThe Pro8AB is much easier to use, (buttons much more self explanatory) but it has less features. It doesn't even have a pause feature- if you need to pause it, you have to drop the power level down.Documentation: Big plus for the select combo II. It actually has a booklet, and recommends different settings for different conditions. The Pro8AB has no documentation. Even online the documentation is just one table.Noise: Sounds picky, but the Select Combo II makes a beep every time you press a button. Sucks if you are resetting your device during a meeting and people think you are making a phone call. The Pro8AB is silent. Also, if on Select Combo II, if you lose connection with one of your electrodes (it falls off or gets snagged), it starts beeping like crazy. Hey, I know it came off, you don't have to let everyone in the office know as well. The Pro8AB is, again, silent. Big advantage for the ProABBattery: I don't think either can operate while being charged. I charge them overnight and use them 4-6 hours a day, and they both make it before the battery drains. However, the Select Combo II seems to have an accurate battery meter. The Pro8AB will drop from full power to half power after 45 minutes, and then drop down to 1 bar an hour later. And then it will be back to 3/4 power again. So I don't know if it has a smaller battery or just an inaccurate power meter, but I don't trust it lasting throughout the day.Modes: These two devices are very different here. The Select Combo II has 2 settings for each type of stimulation (TENS, NMES, IF, RUSS) for each body part (head, back, hand, shoulder, knee, foot), or 48 total, plus the ability to make custom modes. This is really set up for pain relief or to enhance an exercise regimen. The Pro8AB has 8 different "massage options"- like Tuina (no explanation given), cupping, tapping, accupunture, bodybuilding, weightloss, etc) I do not even know if these are true TENS stimulations (TENS stimulate nerves, NMES stimulate muscles), since my muscles were very sore the day after I first used it, which would indicate that its doing muscle stimulation). The good news is that a few of these modes worked for me. But if you do not know what will work for you, the options of the Select Combo II are very nice.Independent control of the A and B channel:This is a feature the Pro8AB says it has- where you can control the mode of the A and B channel separately. This is nice if you shoulder hurts and your lower back hurts, and they respond to different types of stimulation. Well, it doesn't do this on mine- don't know if its broken or just misleading documentation. The Select Combo II doesn't have this feature, but doesn't claim this feature either. Both allow independent control of intensity for A and B.Pads: Originally I got the Select combo II because it uses a type of pad where the pad and connector attach by way of a tight fitting pin/sleeve, which is the more generic (cheaper) method. These are cheaper than the snap fittings that the Pro8AB uses, and they also fit more flush to the skin (the Pro8AB snaps cause bulges on my shirt. I have come to not mind paying for the more expensive snap pads from Healthmate forever because I have started to get an allergic reaction to some of the adhesives used on the pads, and the pads made by healthmate forever do not seem to cause that problem. That was a long comparison. In conclusions, these two devices are made for two different people. the Pro8AB is really made for massaging, though this might still help whatever ailment you have, as it did mine. The Select Combo II has a pretty specific program for your exact need, which is useful if you don't really know what you problem is. The Pro8Ab is much easier to carry around everyday. Now having both, I use the Pro8AB. I am planning on contacting the company to see why the A and B channels are not independent though. But face it, all consumer TENS units are built cheaply (even if its a US company importing and selling them), and I don't expect any of them to last you a lifetime.Update: Its been 6 months since I have gotten this device, and its broken now. A few months ago, the A channel (it has two channels to operate two sets of electrodes) started to random stimulations instead of the prescribed routine, and could be somewhat painful so I stopped using that channel and switched to the B channel. Now thats channel is broken as well.So in 6 months this probably the 5th defect I have found. Out of the box, I could not control the A and B channels independently. Then the battery indicator would show almost no battery life, even though it would stll last all day. Then the on/off switch stopped working, and I had to slide the switch to a very precise position to get the device to turn on. And then the A channel and B channel stopped working.I contacted the warranty department some time ago, before the channels started failing. They tried to convince me that there was no problem. When I couldn't take that as an answer, they told me that they would not mail me a replacement, I would have to mail in my unit and wait for a repair. This is in contrast to what Roscoe does, and I did not want to be without my unit for a month, so I did not send it in. The warrenty is crap anyway.I tried several other, cheaper, devices by HealthmateForever, They kept failing wthin the first week.I hate to give this company or this product any recommendation. If size is not a problem, the Roscoe unit is very nice. Only get this device if you are okay with it failing in 6 months. 2Small size a big plus! After dropping my Therapeutix Tens unit and destroying the screen, I decided to try this one. Have only had it a few days, but like it better for one big reason - it is much smaller! It easily fits in my jeans front pocket. The Therapeutix was the about the size of an IPhone 5 so fell out of my pocket. The Healthmate Tens is about a third smaller. It works about the same as the Therapeutix and is a little more expensive but I think the small size makes it worth it. I use the Tens for post-surgery pain from a hip replacement. I have hamstring tendonitis and trochanteric bursitis. It works especially well for the hamstring issue - seems to relax the tendon and eliminates the burning pain right at the ischial bursa. Highly recommend! 4Good enough for a personal trainerThis unit is not only a TENS unit, it is an EMS unit too. In other words, it will ot only promote healing to sore muscles, it will also stimulate the growing of muscles too. You won't turn in to the Incredible Hulk, but the more your muscles are used/stimulated, the more they will experience growth and strength. The unit is very small and lightweight, which makes it highly portable. One of the best features, and the final selling point to me, was it comes with a power cord. This is huge! Otherwise you depend on batteries. Then when your batteries start losing strength, your unit will have less intensity. But, no worries, with this unit! Just plug it in and let 'er rip! Same consistent output each and ever time.Very easy to replace the pads and wires when necessary.Great job on this product! 5Works well...at the beginning...Pretty nice little gizmo. The first few uses after a charge were the best. Once the battery is down by a bar or two you have to crank it up. I bought the more expensive one because it was supposed to have two independent channels. That's only sort of true since you can have independent strengths but not independent modes. After playing around with one of the cheaper ones ($70), I decided I was still happy with the purchase because the build quality is highly superior. The other one feels very cheap! My biggest complaint is that, after just a few uses, the electrode pads seem to have lost their conductivity significantly. Now I feel a lot more stinging/burning compared to the first few uses, even after dampening. I will buy some gel soon to see if that helps. It's quite painful at the site of placement now but it still works for the muscles so I deal with it.I have multiple herniated lumbar discs and extensive nerve damage/paralysis in my left leg and foot. It does a great job loosening up my lower back muscles when they are tight. If I get them on just the right (or wrong) spot on my nerves either near my hip or on my leg it does really crazy, painful things to the nerves, but that is probably because of the damage I have going on. Otherwise it's a nice alternative to painkillers and relaxes the muscles significantly. 4As good as the big machinesI've been a long time user of EMS and TENs therapies. So when my 30 year old unit died, I wanted to replace it. Now keep in mind that this unit was as big as a dictionary, had these huge rubber paddles and required AC power. I did some research and the healthmateforever got some of the best reviews. After checking out several of their models, I could not believe my eyes. they are about the size of an ipod, are battery powered and have many more modes than my very old and expensive unit. This little guy does everything my old commercial model does equally or better and has some great extra modes my old unit never had. It is easy to use and the new sticky pads are a godsend. No more wetting sponge pads or using sticky gels, just clean them and when they are too worn out, replace them for a few bucks. It is as powerful as my older model and I am not tethered by a power cord.it is a great home unit, if you are looking for a home TENs/EMS system, this little guy will do the trick 5This is such a great unit and the lifetime warranty that comes with it is a plus.I am so happy to have made this purchase. I did quite a bit of research to find a TENS unit to fit my needs and my budget. Based on others reviews that I had read, I decided on this unit. I absolutely love it. I have been dealing with a knee injury for the past few months, torn meniscus, which is very painful and causes swelling in my knee. My physical therapist advised me on the proper placement on my knee, for my injury, so I can treat myself at home. It gives me such pain relief and lessens the swelling. I have a friend who suffers with lower back pain. I purchased this same unit for him. He is getting pain relief with just this unit treating his back pain and has eliminated the use of over the counter pain killers. I bought extra pads, but have been using the same ones for over a month now with daily use. I do moisten them with each use so I think that is why they are lasting so long. This is such a great unit and the lifetime warranty that comes with it is a plus. 5If you have a real need - look elsewhereFor the money paid and as something advertised as a TENs device, I would expect much better documentation. You get a single sheet that explains the parts but no real explanation as to how it works or what settings to use. They name all 8 modes but they make no sense to a Westerner and no attempt is made to explain. Instead of something plainly labelled TENS - you have nonsense oriental terms like Guang and strange terms like "cupping" and "weight loss" that do nothing to help you use the device in any meaningful way. They provide an acupuncture chart which I guess you could use to find any symptoms that are close (seminal emissions? Really?) and then locate the acupuncture points. But my wife wanted this specifically because she has a chronic pain that was treated successfully with e REAL TENS device. None of the modes we tried even came close. So I reluctantly would advise people to buy something with some meaningful docs and based on real medical principles. 2
