Customer Reviews

Great find!I purchase my organic regular coffee from Costco at a great price but recently started drinking less caffeine and had a very difficult time finding a good, organic, water-processed decaf at a reasonable price. I found a cheap one through Walmart's site but even though it was organic and water-processed I didn't know if I could trust that it would be tasty. I scoured Amazon and was thrilled to find this Sumatra. I was looking for something lower acid, not too dark (don't care for French) and the Sumatra seemed to meet all my criteria, including being available through Prime, and from the description and packaging and reviews, I got the sense that these guys are the real deal and that there was a good chance the coffee would be really high quality. 5 pounds of coffee is a lot but the price was much more affordable and since it's whole bean, I felt more secure that it would stay fresh since I could just grind small batches at a time. We're really pleased with it. Nice, full flavor and mild on the stomach. I usually blend it 2/3 - 1/3 with my SF Bay Organic caffeinated coffee and it's delicious.5Another great decaf coffee from this company and their decaf water based process - Colombian and Mexican also great DecafsThis is one of three decaf coffees I have tried which have been prepared using this water based method. I am very very pleased with the result. All three of the coffees from this company prepared in this method, while of different flavor being different coffee beans, are excellent in flavor and quality. All of them were shipped with the roast date/exp date so I have an idea of how recently they were roasted. When compared to a high quality non-decaf coffee bean the roasted beans have noticeably less 'coffee odor', but when prepared as French Press or Espresso all of these decaf roasts (done with this water method of decaf) have had excellent coffee flavor and lots of Crema.I intend to get these again and try other flavors from the same company decaf from the same process.EDIT March 03 2015:The ones I first tried from this company (Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC) were the Colombian, Sumatra, and the Mexican SWP Decaf coffees. I have since also tried the Indian Monsoon decaf from the same company. The Indian Monsoon did not have a roast date or an expiration date, but it had a good aroma to the beans. However, it has a very fleeting (although good) flavor and absolutely no Crema whatsoever (see review PHOTO). I prefer the Mexican, then the Colombian and Sumatra and the Indian last of the four Decafs. The first three of them are really great, but the Indian has a shorter lived and less pronounced flavor than the other three so I do not like it quite as much. I will most certainly buy again all four of them, as they are all good in their own way with the Colombian being exceptional.I have also now tried four other Decafs prepared with supposedly a similar water based process, but I have not found them to have the same flavor as these - although some are close.I prepare all of them with an Insulated French Press which keep the brew temperature within about 203 to 193 during the brew process, and I do not add anything to the coffee (not milk, sugar, or anything else). I get Coffees I like with anything from about 20 to 30 grams per 12 to 16 oz of water. If I am comparing one coffee to another I will measure exactly, but normally I'll just grind about 25g give or take and use about 13 to 15 oz of water. I have yet to get a result that isn't great with these coffees.p.s. I use decaf coffee because it helps with blood glucose levels - and caffeine does the opposite.5Excellent decaf whole bean coffeeHaving just moved to a different part of the country, we had been searching throughout a half dozen local grocery stores for whole bean decaffeinated coffee without success. The light bulb went off finally, and I searched Amazon, which I should have done first. This is the best decaf I ever recall tasting. The 5 pound bag allows me to order it infrequently, which is preferable when storage isn't an issue. I kind of didn't want to write a good review, because now all of you will be buying this, and they will be out of stock when it rolls back around to being my turn to reorder.5Go for it. You will not be sorry!I am hooked! More than hooked! This has got to be one of the best coffees I have ever had. I drink name brand half/caf. in the am. However, after 11 am, I can't even have that, due to the acidity. This coffee, I can drink it all day long! No upset tummy, no shakes. And it is robust!! My husband is not a decaf kind of guy, and even he is drinking it. He says its "pretty tasty" But, we are also making it in a percolator and not the drip. Yum! I am ordering more! We like our coffee strong. We put about 6 to 7 heaping tbsp per 6 cups. I think I could take it a wee bit stronger.5Finally I've found a Decaf coffee worthy of drinking. Finally I've found a Decaf coffee worthy of drinking. For a month I've been looking for a good Decaf coffee close to the taste of regular coffee, I've tried over 50 brands of Decaf coffee and I was so happy when I made it fresh this morning. It's almost to a point if I didn't know it was a Decaf, I would have thought it was a regular coffee. It's funny, Fresh Roasted Coffee brand has been my favorite coffee (Regular Tanzanian Peaberry, and Papua New Guinea is two of my favorite non-decaf), I've waited until now. I think from now on, I'll stick to Fresh Roasted Coffee brand coffees.PS: Secret for K-cup coffee drinkers- if you are using Keurig, you will need to use a coffee grinder to re-ground the ground coffee to fine powder, then use that to brew the K-cup coffee, it will come out Awesome!5Great DecafThe coffee has a great taste provided you use enough of the coffee in each brewing. It is one of the best decaffeinated coffees. I bought the 5 lb bag to save money. Then, I found the Friis containers to keep the coffee beans tasty. Friis says thecanisters have a valve which allows carbon dioxide to escape and preventsoxygen from entering. I recommend them to any coffee lovers, but especiallyto those who buy a several pound bag of coffee beans.5Excellent CoffeeSo my Doctor told me to quite coffee because of elevated blood pressure. Quit Coffee??? Why don't you just rip out my Heart. Well, sigh, Ok. So I went out a bought a decaf blend that met every expectation of what decaf would taste like, Bland, Acidic, Yuk. I knew that there had to be great decaf out there and so I began my search. After checking out several brands, descriptions, and prices, I chose the Fresh Roast Coffee brand. I purchased two pounds each of the Sumatra, Ethiopian, and Colombian. I took equal parts of the three and made a blend. Wow. Now this is some Awesome Decaf Coffee. Rich and Flavorful. I take mine black with sugar and I am not missing out on anything. I will be tasting the individual coffees as I go along but given what I taste now, they will all be great by themselves. I have been decaffeinated now for about a month and now that I have these products, going decaf will not be a problem. Also, now that I have retired, I really don't need that daily caffeine "Liftoff" to launch me through the day. And a definite side benefit, I am sleeping much better through the night. Sounds like a Win - Win to me.5Not great CoffeeI ordered 3 bags of decaf because I have a problem with caffeine. Sumatra was the first bag I opened and it did not even smell like coffee, smelled like chemicals and stale. I ground it up and made coffee and it gave me a headache and raised my BP. I opened a bag of regular Sumatra from Acme and it was fresh and smelled wonderful. The roasting of the decaf was dark black, just about burned and the the regular from Acme was dark brown and smooth. Send note to company and they said it was water processed, but I have had water process before and it was not like this. I threw coffee away. Company asked me to try the Peruvian Decaf, which I did, and it just as bad. Doesn't smell like coffee at all. Beans were black and had a burnt smell to them, didn't smell like medium roast at all more like dark roast.I have more more bag to open of Mexican, but can't send back, too late. See what happens but looks like I will be throwing away another bag.1Wife and I (and guests) really love this decafJust reordered! Wife and I (and guests) really love this decaf. It's bold, full bodied and leaves a pleasant aftertaste.I grind and drip in a Neapolitan maker we brought over in a trunk from Italy. I makes the best drip. Coffee is in contactwith grounds longer than drip but doesn't have the grounds in your cup as French press. My wife uses a semi-auto espresso machine that grinds just before brewing, and it's very nice espresso. When I make two-shot Americano it's super flavorful, almost sweet - but in a good way. Highly recommend. Now I will try Mexican from these folks.5Highly RecommendI have 50+ verified purchases of Amazon's "Fresh Roasted Coffee" brand, all regular whole bean. I previously sampled a 2lb bag of "Sumatra Decaf Organic Fair Trade Coffee, Whole Bean" and believe I found my neutral caffeine solution. Sumatra is organic certified / shade grown and the perfect blend of smooth (Java-esque) medium roast. The Sumatra tastes as close to caffeinated as I've drank. Sumatra soaks evenly through automatic drip or a percolator. As well, a standard coarse burr grind yielded 2 additional pots per bag than "The Bean Coffee Company, Le Bean (Dark French Roast)." I highly recommend a 2lb. starter bag and critique it yourself.5
