Good Visor but Cheap Plastic Press-In Screws Holding Lens Get Loose, Lens Falls Out.Update - 08192019: Seller did actually send me a new visor, received today, and sent me the one with three additional lenses. Good customer service, so I upped the stars rating back to 5.Update: Seller contacted and said they would send me a new unit. Will revise review and stars rating when and if received.Cheap plastic press-in screws holding the lens to the frame get loose (not even swapping lenses) and lens fall out. Don't know if screw problem or frame's hole getting bigger. Cannot find vendor contact info to see if can get replacement screws. The visor itself is OK, but for the screw/frame problem. So gave up and bought the industry leading brand, twice the price, but more substantial product--thicker and heavier, and vendor is responsive.Cheap is cheap. 5however very satisfied with the overall quality for the priceI've only had these for a couple of weeks, however very satisfied with the overall quality for the price. The visor stays in place well, and it's easy to raise/lower the magnification lenses. These are great for reading really fine print, or especially when working on anything small and detailed. I like to change out my own watch and phone batteries, and these are a hundred times better than trying to do it with a magnifying glass in one hand. The 2.5X lens that comes with the visor is quite strong, you need to get pretty close to the subject you're working on for it to come into focus.I held off on ordering the other lenses until I checked this out. At this point, I think the 2.5X lens that it comes with will work out for almost all my needs. At some point in the future it would be nice to get the additional lenses, especially as my vision degrades. 5I am very happy with this headband magnifier so farI am very happy with this headband magnifier so far. It is relatively light and comfortable, even when worn for extended times. The glass lenses do a very nice job of magnifying things for you, albeit a little 'heavy'. But I opted for glass lenses over the plastic ones available out there since glass does not scratch easily and is easier to keep clean. I also ordered the optional other lenses of varying magnifications, but so far, for me, I have only used the magnification that came installed on the magnifying headband. But having other magnifications available, at least to me, was worth the extra costs. I would definitely recommend this magnifier to my friends who, like me, enjoy tinkering; whether it is on electrical devices (this makes soldering small wires SO much easier);, repairing fishing lures, lubricating and inspecting small things (bicycle and motorcycle chains)..whatever you do that would be easier and safer if you could see things on a MUCH larger. scale :-) 5I would recommend these but.....I like these magnifiers but I feel like they should come with the multiple magnification lenses instead of just the 2.5x that they do or an option to bundle the extra lenses with one purchase. The adjustment knob for the headband tension can be a bear. I found that if I pulled up on the knob while turning it would make it easier to adjust in or out though If it were much tighter I wouldn't be able to turn it at all. The lenses are clear, accurate and most importantly glass. The lenses are not held in with screws but plastic push pins that expand after being pushed in the hole, I'm not sure about this design but it has worked so far. These are of the least expensive headband magnifiers with glass lenses and I recommend them. 4Works well for me.I work in a lab on small parts and circuit boards. I used a visor of this general design for many years. Recently I needed a second magnifier for a second location. I tried binocular magnifiers mounted on an eyeglass frame, as used by dentists, but they were hard to use and the field of view was small. I bought these because they were inexpensive. They work great! They are much better than my old headband magnifier, because the lenses are glass and very clear. The headband was comfortable enough, and moving the magnifiers up and out of the way worked fine, contrary to some of the other comments here. You just flip the magnifiers out of the way. The visor shading the eyes helps a lot with illumination of the part. I use these in conjunction with an gooseneck lamp on the lab bench, and don't really feel the need for a lamp on the headband. Works well with eyeglasses. 5What you REALLY WANT!I bought this magnifier as a "compromise" to what I THOUGHT I really wanted. What I THOUGHT I wanted was the more expensive headband with a light and a loupe and...well....better QUALITY. BUT....the MORE EXPENSIVE ones all had PLASTIC lenses! I wanted GLASS lenses! So....after reading a bunch of reviews....I came across some good ones about the MagnifyLabs model WITH GLASS LENSES.Honestly...I wasn't expecting much. This headband is NOT very EXPENSIVE...so I was truly expecting low quality. BOY...WAS I WRONG!When I opened the box...looked them over....and then put them on....I WAS REALLY HAPPY! These things are GREAT!The headband FITS MY BIG HEAD! And, it adjusts easily and stays put!The optics are CLEAR....CLEAN.....CRISP!And....I imagine....I won't be scratching them all up right away with my carelessness because they are GLASS!They come with spare little plastic 'rivets" for if you want to order additional lenses. There are several lenses to choose from. All in all, these are a GREAT buy and I am GLAD I BOUGHT THEM!I am now going to make myself a little LED light to velcro to them. I like them so much, they are WELL WORTH the trouble to do so.Get yourself a pair....you WILL NOT BE SORRY! 5Clearly the best value in magnifiers!I was delighted at the quality of the magnifier for the price; an excellent value! I already owned another brand but seldom used it since it would not stay fitted to my head properly. This one is far superior and I use it regularly. It stays properly adjusted due to the type of adjusting mechanism. It is not just a friction clamp like most others; it actually adjusts by turning the knob and stays put. The side clamps that keep the visor at the proper level have also been very dependable so I don't have to frequently re-tighten them. I ordered the extra replacement lenses as well. It is so nice to have real glass lenses as opposed to the more common plastic. This product definitely gets 5 stars from me. 5Scratched lens out of the box.Based on the unit I received I would have to give the product a 2 star rating. The headband came with a scratched lens right out of the box. The 2 scratches are right in the line of sight and greatly affect the vision. There is no way of telling whether the unit I received was a returned unit or not because they don't tape the box closed unfortunately, which would indicate that one way or the other I suppose. The dial responsible for changing the size of the headband is nearly impossible to turn and is incredibly frustrating. And it's not that it's just tight or stiff or something that will "break in" over time. It is very inconsistent in that sometimes it is impossible to turn but then randomly one time it will turn more easily. I have tried to figure out the rhyme or reason and there just isn't one. Incredibly frustrating.I ordered the set of 3 additional glass inserts and I can certainly see why there is a potential for the glass to come scratched. When I opened the little bag that each lens comes wrapped in, there are several pieces of scrap something in them. 1 had a black plastic piece in it and some of the others appeared to be glass shards from the factory cutting out the lens and the trimmings not coming off all the way and then falling off after they've been packaged to ship. At that point the lenses are rubber banded together and are rubbing against each other with the debris in between them. The glass shards and whatever other debris that are in the bags is scratching the glass. The black plastic pieces holding the lens onto the unit are going to wear out or break extremely fast due to it being very cheap plastic and they do not sell them individually, you have to buy a whole new head unit. Your lens will become loose in the headset making it very difficult to focus. They should include at least 1 extra set in the box if they're not going to sell them individually. Not a deal breaker obviously, just a real annoyance when that day inevitably comes. The fit of the headband, once you can get the thing to turn, is indeed very comfortable and can be worn for extended amounts of time without discomfort and the lens that I can see out of is crystal clear and sharp, far superior to plastic. I will be sending these back but ordering another set to hopefully get a good one this time. The potential for a great product is certainly here, and from the reviews it would seem that I am certainly in the minority of people who have had an issue with these, but unfortunately this is my experience nonetheless. 2The perfect magnifier for me, and for what I need it forWhile there are some shortcomings to the design/materials used in this magnifier, they are all offset by the fact that it magnifies wonderfully, and I can use it without being distracted by it.Yes, the tightening mechanisms come loose. But I've gotten used to that, to the point where I just periodically re-tighten them.Yes, the vinyl padding inside the headband looks and feels cheap, but it doesn't irritate my forehead, and it keeps the price down vs. other costlier materials (which may not actually be considerably more comfortable).Yes, it arrived with the lens having fallen out, but once I put the lens in place, it's stayed put.Yes, it only comes with one lens. But this is known before purchasing, the lens is actual glass, and for me, the magnification is perfect.Yes, there's a typo on either the box or with some of the packaging. It's an aggravation that I can't deny, but given the price, I can overlook it.I spend a LOT of hours hand building electronics projects, and this magnifier makes a huge difference in what I can see, and how well I get it done. My solder joints have gotten so much better as a result. There's almost no debugging required, because I can SEE a potential problem when it first arises.Despite the visor coming loose, I've grown used to tightening it periodically, but absolutely love having my hands free, and being able to flip the visor up. I work in conditions with little or no climate control, and can't complain of skin irritation from heavy sweat on the headband. Since I work with solder, these double as eye protection, and glass lenses means that a potential solder splash will not ruin what is typically made of plastic....I really didn't have a lot to spend for this magnifier, especially given that it's my first one, and I wanted to see if this specific design was something I might end up liking enough. That said, I tried to find one that wasn't all around cheap, which would have defeated the purpose. Maybe it's a combination of quality where it counts along with shortcomings that aren't dealbreakers FOR ME, but I honestly value this magnifier for the whole five stars...I don't even have to think about it! 5Just OK - There's much better out there at comparable cost if you take the time to look.I have used a number of these kinds of designs at all kinds of price points, and was looking for a new one. However, surveying the field on Amazon there's about 20 different kinds of what I'll refer to as the "Donegan-style" or "Welder type" optical visor as well as a variety of new, more modern looking contenders. The problem is that:1. They all look roughly the same2. They are all different prices from about $14 to over $503. Some have acrylic lenses, some have glass4. Some have LED lights while others don't5. Some have more magnifying options, some come with only one magnification level6. They have wildly different reviews7. Most are reviewed by people who are purchasing their first optical visor and don't have experience with other modelsSo, I bought a number of these to compare and figured I'd share my results. At the end of the day I feel this unit, considering it's cost compared with the competition is:1. Limited without the LED lamp2. The rear adjustment knob is difficult to adjust3. It's quite large4. It doesn't come with other lens optionsTo add an LED lamp and additional magnification, you are talking about $30+ additional costs, in which case you are much better served purchasing this right off the bat:SE MH1047L Illuminated Multi-Power LED Head MagnifierIt's $8 cheaper than this one as of writing and provides an LED lamp and an additional magnification loupe right off the bat to give you the two levels (standard, and ultra )IMHO the glass vs acrylic thing is overblown. You have to be more careful with the acrylic, so as long as you don't throw it around and keep it clean you should be just fine. Additionally, a poor glass lens isn't superior to a good acrylic one. So, don't take that difference too seriously unless you are using it in a rough environment. For general hobby work I don't think there's a reason to squabble over the differences. If you need more than one lens and a loupe and want this style of headset, you are looking at buying this one: Headband Magnifier Visor Double Lens - 1.5X 2X 2.5X 3.5X And then hoping you can add this to it: Quasar Led Lighting System for OptivisorsWhich brings me to what I believe to be the best option: Yoctosun Headband Magnifier Glasses LED 5 Replaceable Lenses1.0X,1.5X,2.0X,2.5X,3.5X (Upgraded Version)This model comes standard with all of the features lacking in the Donegan-style design plus some additional for a whopping ~$15 delivered.1. Five high quality thick lenses of varying magnification levels that should be perfect for almost any application.2. Comes with a lint-free cloth to wipe off the lenses3. The lenses can be adjusted more than 90 degrees and be flipped up when not in use4. The magnifier has a built in LED lamp with conveniently located on off button.5. The LED has a wide range of adjustment as well, ~45 degrees6. All of the adjustments are fluid, have set screws for varying tension and are head and shoulders above others for ease of use7. Comes with a lens holder which is fantastic for preventing scratching and wear to the lenses when not in use (don t underestimate the value of this!)8. It comes both with eyeglasses style temples and a wraparound headband depending on your preferences9. I find it more comfortable to wear given that you take some time to get the nose bridge just rightGet some silicon nose pads for eyeglasses to get it just right on your nose and 3x AAA batteries and you'll never look back. 2
