Peace of mind when dealing with a loved ones dementia!Love this product! Would recommend to anyone dealing with a family members memory and safety issues. Very easy to use! Is tamper proof and absolutely NO medication errors can be made! 5Worked perfectly for two monthsI bought this for my mom because she was starting to forget to take her meds and we did find two days were she had taken two days worth of medication so I decided this would be good to have and we would all feel better knowing that Mom had taken the correct dose of her medications during the day before we got there in the evenings for our visit. Set up is easy. It is rather large and I think it would be a lot better in a different color since you pretty much need to have it sitting out somewhere. Things went very well for just about two months and then one day it dispensed more than one day and a few days after that the alarm would not shut off even when unplugged. We had to remove the batteries to make it stop and when we plug it all back in it continued. I haven t been able to send it back yet so my mom is back to using her traditional plastic weekly pill organizer. Really disappointed because when it was working this was one thing we didn t have to worry about. 2Not for us, fell apart early.Really not happy with this. First of all, the number of pill distribution pockets are uneven, so if you take pills twice a day (like my mom does), you can't evenly distribute without having an empty slot, which when the timer goes off is an issue, because then you can't get to the correct dosage. Have had a little over a month and the battery compartment fell off and the battery fell out, which when it was unplugged lost the time, which then had to be reset so the dosage timer would work again. We're going "old school" with a manual distribution system, since we don't have an issue with her wanting to take meds she shouldn't take. Just bought a little timer to remind her. I'd return it if I could, but don't see that option. Way too much $$$ for it to fail this early!!! 2I like this machineI like this machine. I purchased one for my 87 yr old mom. The AM and PM were programmed incorrectly but rather than sending it back I just swapped the time when I programmed to dispense. A year or so later I ordered 2 more, this time for my 92 yr old dad. He takes meds multiple times a day and with two machines I have to fill less frequently. Unfortunately one of them had a warped cover and it wouldn't work correctly. Amazon sent another one to replace it. I set the 2 of them up, again one of them had been mis-programmed at the factory swapping the AM and PM. This time I had to drive 2 towns away at 8PM so that my dad could take his meds. Not cool MedReady. I'm trying to give you a good review. The machines are a big help but only if they are programmed properly at the factory. Need to improve QA. Thankfully once I knew about the issue I could just swap the time in my setup but not sure everyone will know to do that. 3Very mixed feelings.I don't know if mine is defective or if this is a common issue, but I can not keep the battery door closed; this causes the device to not function as it must have the battery AND AC adapter to function. The design is good, and if it was not for this issue it would be fine, but as I stated, not sure if mine is defective or this is a known issue with the product. 2OK but pay close attention setting it up.I bought this for my 87 year old Aunt to replace a different machine. Her home health care company lost the employee that knew how to fill the old one and they talked us into buying this one because they had many that knew how to use it. Their first 4 attempts to set it up properly failed and spanned 3 weeks during which I had to become the pill dispenser. I obtained an RMA for it after the second failure. I took it home and got it to work properly AFTER reading the instructions, was able to understand why they failed, and wound up teaching their experts how to use it. I cancelled the RMA.While the machine has worked well since I gave it only 3 stars for the following reasons:1. My Aunt is a bit hard of hearing and the alarm is not as loud as her old machine so we have to use an alarm clock for the day's firstpill dispense. In all fairness I should mention that both machines were stationed on a table just outside her open bedroom door.2. This can be set to dispense pills 1-4 times a day. While setting it up it is a bit to easy to accidentally turn off one or more of the neededdispensing times. It is also easy to mix up AM and PM so double check everything before locking the lid.3. Her old one dropped pills in a small reusable cup after pushing a large button that also shut the alarm off. Her slightly larger thanaverage arthritic plagued hands could handle those small cups well. With this she has to dig pills out of a small curved space with some corners. If a small pill lands in the rear corner her hands can't get it and she has to use a pen to move the pill.4. If she slept thru or missed a pill time her old machine allowed you to drop a couple missed cups in order. This one uses a rotating carousel and a missed does can only be obtained by removing the lid which in our case can lead to other problems because she lives alone. We had hers set for 4 times a day. The 8am to 9 am was a problem. All to often she would sleep thru the 8am to 9am time. We wound up changing to 3 times a day by combining the 8am & 9am doses and letting her pluck the one 8am pill out and leaving the others on the table for later. That way she had till 1pm, the third dosing, to get her morning pills out of the machine. Fortunately her old machine only did 3 times a day so she was used to this system. It was funny that the main reason we liked having to change machines was a 4 per day ability then we went back to 3 a day.5. With the old machine the alarm was turned off before getting the pills and was a one step process getting it ready for the next time. With this the alarm goes off when you open the door but you have to close the door before the alarm will work again. This two step process has caused some missed doses at the right time because the poor dear does not always remember to close the door after digging the pills out.Now the two nurses that claimed to be experts on this before we bought it that I had to train to use it have left the company and the ones that replaced them are making the same rookie mistakes setting it up. Then her old nurse returned and for all the reasons cited above they all decided to start using the old machine again! You have no idea how much time I spent giving pills manually during the first few weeks, then learning how to use the machine, then training the so called experts that talked us into buying this one only to see problems and personnel changes take us back to where we started. I just want to hit somebody on the nose with a rolled up newspaper but I don't know who to swat at! 3Great for Forgetful PatientsI have ordered several of these units over the past two years for clients of our clinic. They work great, but there are a few cautions: 1. they can easily be broken into so they are not acceptable for patients who want more pills than prescribed; 2. the battery compartment cover is prone to breaking. I would recommend putting a strip of packing tape over it. I'd give them 5 stars if they would automatically change the clock for Daylight Savings time!NOTE: There is a 1700 PRN unit, too, which is not identified in the product description. That unit ONLY does PRN (take as needed)dispensing and cannot be programmed for set times. The 1600 models are programmable. 4It looked like someone had sent it back by the way it ...Bought one of these and when it finally got here started having problems. It looked like someone had sent it back by the way it was taped up. No paperwork. Called manufacture and they told me that since I bought it from someone other than them I was pretty much SOL. Company rep walked me thru a few things and had it going for about 3 days and now the wheel that moves the pill tray around no longer turns. NOW I HAVE TO GO AND HUNT DOWN SOMETHING THAT MY ELDERLY MOTHER CAN USE. Had high hopes that this would help my mother but this is a waste of money unless you buy it straight from the manufacturer or a local place that will let you return it WHEN it craps out on you. Only reason I gave it a one star is because it..... can't think of a reason. 1Great productBought this for my father in law who forgets to take his meds. With this unit he can hear the alarm and knows that it s time for meds. 5a god sendMy mom is in the first stages of Alzheimer , she was getting her meds all mixed up, this has helped so much , the adult community where she lives wanted $700 a month to give her meds, for now she is still able to take meds on her own thanks to this 5
