Customer Reviews

Arrived half-empty & no brushI ordered this on Amazon because I couldn't find it at BiMart. When I went to use it, I found that the lid did not contain the little brush needed to apply the product to skin cracks. The little container was half empty. Also, there was dried up product around the top of the bottle. It looked like a product that had been returned damaged and then repackaged and resold. Not good! 1Doesn t sting, but gets thick and gooey very quickly and it s priceyThis is the best liquid bandge for one reason - it doesn t sting when you apply. On the downside, it gets thick and goopy very quickly. The company says that it gets that way when exposed to the air, but how else can we apply it if we don t expose it to the air? For the amount of the product that stays useful in the bottle once it s opened, it s too expensive. I wind up throwing at least half of it away. 22nd best2nd best liquid bandage out of 3 I tried.I'd used Liquid Bandage for a few years on my terribly cracked fingertips. I would put it on before bed and it smelled so medicinal, I hated using it and disturbing my spouse with the smell. And it really dripped when applying. I researched reviews on here and decided to try Nexcare & Skin Shield.Skin Shield wins the #1 spot. It is longer lasting. While it smells in the bottle, it doesn't smell bad after applying/drying. The brush is bigger and gets a little "globbier" but doesn't drip so much when applying as Liquid Bandage.Nexcare is a thinner liquid and I like the smaller bottle and brush. It is very easy to apply without dripping. But it just doesn't last as long on my deep cuts/cracks that hurt so badly in the night. And it seems to wash off more quickly. Where applied, you do have a bit of a "rubbery" feel. Not necessarily bad, but I notice it. Skin Shield is shiny, but a smooth feel. Nexcare would work OK on small/not deep cuts. The smell was the main thing, and both pass this test for me. But when I need to reorder, I'll stick with Skin Shield. 4Doesn't sting...doesn't workGreat news: it doesn't sting. Bad news: it only lasts about two hand washings. I love the Nexcare bandages so was happy to see this since the product I normally use on dry skin cracks stings like crazy, and this was advertised not to sting. That is true, it doesn't sting, but it doesn't stay on beyond two times washing my hands. I'll have to either put up with the stings, or try to use a bandage which doesn't work well when the cuts are at the edges of fingernails. 1This stuff is magic.I had tried this stuff before. We can not get it here in our little town. I break out from time to time and it is very painful. I apply this stuff on the cracks on my fingers or the bottom of my hands. It stops the burning feeling. I think I am allergic to something at work. This stuff is magical. So I ordered two bottles. I saw the reviews. To each their own. It works. Most of the time I use bandages to stop the pain. I work with the public..... what can I say. 5This should be called "no more tears"Never mind that other brand that stings like crazy. This one does not. And when you put it on it lasts longer. It comes in a pretty small bottle. but I've had mine long enough for it to get a bit dried out and gloppy and since I need to pitch that and buy another my guess is the size is just right unless you've got a pile of kids who are always cutting and scraping themselves. So it's kind of pricey, especially per ounce compared to the competition, but I would seriously buy it again because it doesn't hurt to put it on a cut. 4Not nearly as good as 2-octyl cyanoacrylate productsI was extremely pleased for many years with the original Band-Aid Liquid Bandage which contained the miracle ingredient 2-octyl cyanoacrylate, a human-safe version of superglue which is currently used by doctors/surgeons/vets as the best available product. This Nexcare product doesn't work as well in any respect compared to the original, and 3M knows it, but it is no longer sold over the counter to people (evidently too many folks were not careful in using it). Note that acetone (horribly stinky nail-polish remover) or mineral oil or any superglue remover does remove this human-safe version of superglue, but this was not common-enough knowledge and folks did not have a remover readily available when they misused it. So it was removed from the consumer market several years ago, evidently due to liability concerns.I used the original Band-Aid liquid bandage for many years for my painful winter skin cracks. A miracle product since it instantly cut the pain. When it was discontinued I tried literally every other product on the market and all had serious deficiencies. This Nexcare liquid bandaid is adequate in filling skin cracks except it doesn't cut the pain at all (my main gripe) and doesn't last nearly as long.I just serendipitously stumbled onto the wikipedia entry for Cyanoacrylate, which includes this in its introductory remarks:"2-octyl cyanoacrylate is a medical grade glue encountered under various trade names; e.g., LiquiBand, SurgiSeal, FloraSeal, Dermabond, Orabase, Surgi-Lock and Nexaband. This was developed to be non-toxic and less irritating to skin tissue."I searched amazon and the only two products in the list of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate products above from wikipedia that are sold (by amazon) are Dermabond (0.5ml for $17) and Surgi-Lock 2oc (2.0ml for $40). There is no other liquid bandage that compares to a product with the main ingredient cyano 2oc -- at least that is what the medical establishment believes (and I know from years of experience, having tried all the liquid bandages on the market). Sorry the real stuff is expensive, but you get what you pay for (plus they can charge doctors nearly any price and get away with it).===============================================================Off topic somewhat, the doctors in our family have recently turned me on to an excellent non-liquid bandage which they use, but a year later, pharmacies still do not sell this quite amazing product. However Amazon does sell it, "3M Micropore paper tape" (also called "3M Micropore surgical tape" because that's what surgeons use). 12 small portable rolls of 10 yards(!) each are about $10, which will last you forever. I have been using the 1" wide version for the past year (also have the 2" wide version, but haven't had a wound that wide yet :-) and am very impressed by its properties. You can easily tear it by hand (no scissors needed!) to the length you want, you can put it on a wound in one layer or wrap it around a finger one or more times. It is "micropore", ie. it lets the wound breathe, and is waterproof enough to stay on through a couple of days of showers.================================================================12/26/14 update: "3M Vetbond" is currently the most cost-effective of the thin medical-grade cyanoacrylate products.Apply one layer (1 drop), let dry (blow on it for faster drying), then apply one or two more layers (drops) and let dry between each, to get the desired thickness. One bottle should last for at 50 two-drop skin crack fixups.By the way, the "3M Nexcare skin crack care" product is almost useless in comparison to "3M Vetbond" 4Good stuff!I'm one of those people who wash their hands a LOT, causing my fingertips to crack and bleed. Fingertip cuts are almost impossible to bandage satisfactorily - at least if you expect to still have some dexterity, especially while typing. The great thing about this is that you paint it on like nail polish. It creates a thin barrier between your boo-boo and whatever you need to do. It lasts for a while too - depending on how hard you scrub your hands when you wash them. It's especially useful at bedtime. Paint it on before you go to sleep and your fingertips finally start healing overnight. Well, almost overnight. It's a small bottle so fellow OCD sufferers: plan to buy more and often. 5It stings!Oh my goodness this stings like hell, I m in so much pain right now because of it. So disappointing, it says no sting It s just not true, it s been stinging for several minutes now, I don t know when it will stop. It s just as bad as NewskinThe spray version doesn t sting, I should have used that instead. 1Disappointing product from NexcareI'm usually really happy with Nexcare products but this one fell flat. I think I would have had better luck trying regular white school glue instead. :) I tried this for a super thin, healed split on my pointer finger and cracked skin on a toe. It rubbed right off just doing normal activities around the house (didn't even last until I needed to wash my hands). The gel didn't work on my hand or foot so I'll likely be tossing this one. I may try it combined with bandage to see if it provides any benefit that way. 2
