Customer Reviews

Product has changed somewhat over time, perhaps better perhaps not.I've been purchasing this brand of pure stevia extract for about 4 years now. Over time the price initially increased, but recently it has become somewhat less expensive than before.Below are my purchase dates and prices for when the seller was Mood and Mind and included free Prime Shipping.1/12/2015 - $52.95 USD10/1/2015 - $55.95 USD12/13/2016 - $55.95 USD01/26/2018 - $46.95 USDAfter seeing a few recent reviews about differences in quality from prior batches I decided to do a little testing. I compared the batch received from 12/13/2016 to that of the new batch from 01/26/2018.To sweeten an 8oz cup of tea, it took about 3/64-4/64 of a teaspoon for each batch. I believe that the prior batch was a bit sweeter to my taste, so on a hunch I decided to compare the density of the two batches. I found that 1/16 tsp had an average weight of 135mg for the prior year batch, while the new batch had an average weight of 106mg.Thus I concluded that the prior year batch was comparatively about 25% more dense. Since the product is sold by weight, nothing seems amiss with the amount of sweetening you get / lb of product. You might have to use a little more volume to sweeten your food and drink, but ultimately I could not currently conclude that the amount of sweetness I was paying for had gone down over time. It may have even gone up. I would have to do more testing by weight (which I am not really inclined to do at this time).I did not or could not account for possible hydration from humidity affecting the product though, since the old product was stored in a Mason jar with a lid I lift off each time I want some stevia. That could also affect things if someone else were to do some of their own experiments. The recent product though did have a somewhat different consistency. It was a lot like confectionery sugar this time. It does not dissolve as easily as the prior batch. It sort of floated in a clump at first and would eventually dissolve with a small amount of effort. The sweetening effect is also a bit more of an after-effect compared to the original, although I may be mistaken. All in all I think I prefer the prior batches. Are they worth paying more for? For me I think so, but I don't think everyone would. I like the original's taste affect a little more and it's ability to dissolve easily. With heavy price competition though, I believe most new buyers would choose whatever is cheapest. It's kind of a toss up, no best answer. I may try a competitor next and see what I think.---I will never get this time back in my life. Why did I do this. 4I've been looking for this!Trying to reduce the use of sugar in my diet without the use of potentially toxic substitutes has been challenging. Reading the contradictory and volatile accounts of what is and isn't safe is aggravating. One product that seems safe and natural is stevia. It is a plant extract, and much of the world has been using it for decades, apparently without problem. Finding it in a product format that I like has been a challenge.I tried liquid stevia, and liked it's sweetening ability, but the larger, economical bottles started turning cloudy before I could finish them, so I ended up wasting product and money.I tried powdered stevia in packets. The first one I tried contained a fiber additive. The box that I bought must have come in contact with some high humidity, because the stevia in all of the packets was tightly clumped and almost impossible to dissolve. I went in search of packets of pure stevia, and could not find any. They all contained fillers or additives such as maltodextrin or one of the sugar alcohols sweeteners like sorbitol. I already know from past experience that the sugar alcohols cause gastric distress for me, so that was out. (the names of sugar alcohols typically end in "tol". Other common ones are sorbitol and erythritol. They are not intoxicating alcohols, but bear the name due to chemical composition. They are a reasonable sugar substitute for some, but stomach or intestinal distress is a common side effect, especially when consumed in large quantities. As a retired nurse and health coach, I did a fair amount of research for diabetic patients.)Finally, I found this product and decided to try it. It was a little pricey, but it's a good sized bag. It arrived and I tried it in my coffee. I started with 1/8th of a teaspoon, and it was too much! For a cup of coffee, I literally just dip the corner of the measuring spoon into the powder. Now I know why all the other brands use fillers and additives. With the pure stevia extract, individual packets would be really tiny! I am thrilled with this product and highly recommend it to anyone trying to minimize sugar in their diet. You don't need potentially toxic artificial sweeteners. Try this stevia product....a little sprinkle will do :) 5Used to be the best, now the just like all the other low end steviaThey changed their product. I have been using stevia for about 3 years now, and tried many, most were very below average or incredibly expensive. I was so excited to find this company, great price, originally one of the best stevias, no bitterness, dissolved instantly in anything cold or hot, which is why they gained the extra star. I have been buying this company, big and small bags, even recommended them to my entire family.I bought a big bag in August, and it was absolutely horrible, returned it. It wouldn't dissolve in anything no matter what we did, and had a slight bitterness to it. I waited a couple months thinking it could have been the batch, and just got another one a week ago. It is the same crap I got two months ago and had to return it. It's not even usable, no matter what we do it won't dissolve and it has a weird bitterness to it. Please fix your product, it was perfect the way it was. 2Nasty! Never again!I always buy another brand but they were out of stock so I tried this one. NEVER again. It tastes terrible, is clumpy, floats on my coffee, and did I mention it tastes really really bad. I couldn't be more disappointed! A total waste of money and i'm going back to my original pure organic stevia powder. 1Consistency Has Changed!Been buying this brand for a long time. The latest purchase has a different consistency; it doesn't dissolve in hot liquid and floats on top. which makes me wonder if it's still 100% stevia. Decided to go with a different brand. 1my opinion mood & mind in not worth the money buy from CC nature storeI have used mood and mind organic stevia extract for years I really thought it was the bomb! I did not realize that when putting it into my drink that is should not float and clump. I thought that was a natural part of being organic stevia. Normally I buy about a pound and it lasts me 6 months February mood and mind not available in the pound size or was extremely expensive I do not remember at any rate I was forced to try another brand organic Stevia powder from CC nature store it also was a 1lb package It also says it has no fillers this stuff is awesome it dissolves right away it does not Clump or float on the surface much easier to use and according to the package you should only use 1/32 of a teaspoon so I did some experiments 42 mg compared to 42 mg and the stuff from the CC nature store according to my taste buds is tremendously sweeter easier to use and does not clump float on the surface stick to the spoon which raises the question in my mind is mood and mind being honest when they say they don't use any fillers both products are supposed to be USDA organic no fillers no additives but they don't act the same they don't taste the same and the one from CC nature store certainly gave me my money's worth I give mind and mood a double thumbs down and request my money back they have lost a customer 1High quality, cost effective. Perfect for diabetics & weight managementPurchasing in bulk is so cost effective and this one in particular seems to be pure in quality. I am a staunch opponent of refined sugars and artificial sweeteners, and try to swap it out any way I can using stevia. Be wry of "stevia packets" claiming to be zero calorie--a lot of times those are simply stevia combined with fillers sucralose or dextrose. If you're after zero calories, then I guess those are fine. BUT if you're seeking out stevia or sugar alternatives to control insulin spiking and manage your weight then those packets/sucralose/dextrose/etc. still mimick white table sugar. Your blood sugar levels WILL spike! My father is pre-diabetic and I've gotten him on this brand of powdered stevia in his morning coffee instead of white sugar. His blood sugar levels are now in the low 100's post coffee which is great for him!Word of caution: Because this is pure stevia powder it is EXTREMELY potent! Haha you can smell the sweetness every time you open the bag. A little goes a very very long way with this! 5This is a good value, and worth a try to see if you like itAccording to the ingredients label, this product is pure Stevia, with no added sugar, fillers or anything else. Stevia does not taste the same as sugar, and it does have a bit of an aftertaste, but it is sweet and I've gotten use to it. The aftertaste is not that big a deal, and I don't even notice it anymore. This product seems like a good value. A tiny amount is sufficient to sweeten anything. You can experiment to determine how much you need. This big bag of Stevia is going to last me for a very long time. 4I used to purchase this brand and from this company for few years ans was very satisfied with the productBuyers, beware...I used to purchase this brand and from this company for few years ans was very satisfied with the product. However, with the last purchase of the same product, which was made on 03/20/2016, I got a distinctly different grainier powder that is not, by far, as sweet as it was before. It takes now almost a spoonful of the powder to get a batch of yogurt sweetened whereas I needed only 1/4 of the spoonful before. It looks like the producer/packager company started adding fillers to the original product. What a disappointment. The presence of fillers is obvious with the fact that this powder does not clump like pure Stevia powder does, it's more of a free-flowing powder now. Will need to find some other brand/seller of pure Stevia powder. 1It's great in everyday things and baking/recipes alsoMy wife and i have been buying this for years, it is the only sweetener we use. It's great in everyday things and baking/recipes also. The price caused me sticker shock the first time I bought it and it does increase each time I buy it...BUT...it lasts us a whole year, when I did the math and compared to how much I was spending on artificial sweeteners and even sugar we are saving money. It is so concentrated it only takes 1/32 of a tsp for a glass of tea. I do not notice any chemical or aftertaste of any kind, and after using it so long I find I do not like the taste of sugar.Good stuff! 5
