The only way you get the correct taste is to use "boiling water" in other words - poor actual "bubbling" boiling water over theI must correct the previous reviewer. "Near boiling water"???????? Are you kidding? The only way you get the correct taste is to use "boiling water" in other words - poor actual "bubbling" boiling water over the tea bag. It really does make a difference. If you leave the kettle more than 2-5 seconds then the water stops bubbling and is therefore not boiling and the transfer of the taste from the tea leaves to the water does not happen properly. Also while you let the tea steep in the tea pot make sure you put a good tea cosy over the pot to keep it as hot as possible with a suitable insulated stand or cork pad underneath and pour (after stirring) the tea within about 3-5 minutes depending upon how strong you like it. DON'T let the pot sit too long because again it spoils the taste if it cools too much. Also consider getting real China cups. Large thick mugs which are common in the U.S. might work for coffee but the thickness can suck the heat out of the tea and the first mouthful might be good but the last will be cold. Distilled water, WHOLE milk and moderate sugar to taste will give you the best cuppa tea you can get out side of England! A final note - do not clean the pot in a dishwasher. The best Chinese tea pots are made of porous clay and absorb the tea taste and improve the taste over time. Just rinse the pot with hot water to remove any leaves/sediment and leave inverted to dry.5My favorite black tea!A UK ex-pat friend of mine turned me on to PG Tips almost 15 years ago. I have always been a fan of black tea, but PG Tips brews a nice strong, clean cup like no other black tea I have tried. Typically, in order to get a bold flavored cup of tea with Lipton or even Twinings, you really have to over-steep the tea, which creates some bitterness. One PG Tips pyramid bag in a large 24 oz. travel mug for 3 minutes with water just short of boiling makes the perfect cup of tea. If you have been drinking any of the other more widely available brands in the US, do yourself a favor and give PG Tips a try.5Great cup of teaThis is an awesome cup of tea. I look forward to cup after dinner. Or on Saturday after a heavy lunch. The taste is great and it makes a cup of tea with real body. I will very happily buy this again. For those that don't need or want the caffeine, I'd recommend opting for the decaf. But, for me, the full body tea is first rate. It was also cool when I ordered it to receive the tea via Royal Post... It came from across the pond and the boxed are still fresh.I would suggest that once you open the box, put it in a large ziploc bag and keep it sealed. It will be better at retaining the freshness.5Best if you like Strong TeaPG Tips is a very strong tea. I get 2 full mug-size cups out of each bag. If you are one who just puts the bag in, dumps it about a couple of times and pulls it out, don't bother with this tea. You will like Lipton's better and save money in the purchase. But for those of us who have been "properly trained in English tea" this brand is a must. I restore old British Cars for a living; have done so for 40 years. I have employed true Englishmen over the years and they taught me a very long time ago what was a "proper cup of tea." Starting out with PG Tips is a must if one wants to obtain such a cup! (don't forget the splash of milk!). Cheers!5Our favorite everday tea!We drink this tea quite often, and really enjoy it. While not a connoisseur's tea by any means, it makes a good, strong, "cuppa char" to go with your breakfast, sammie, or cookies. I prefer the large pyramidal bags over regular bags, too, as they seem to improve brewing of the tea and are easier to fish out before pouring. The price here at Amazon is much, much better than at the stores, too--about 1/2 the typical grocery store price per bag!It does help if you know how to make tea, as making it incorrectly may result in a bitter, unpleasant brew. The key things to remember are: always prewarm your pot, use BOILING water (not just hot), and let it steep at least 3 minutes. As these are a bit larger than some teabags, I usually allow about 1-2 bags for each 2 cups or 1 mug of tea, plus an extra bag, "for the pot" so to speak. So in our 4-cup teapot, I will use about 4-5 bags, depending on how strong I want it. Milk (better than cream) will help cut the tannin, if your tea is too potent; lemon helps as well--but don't use milk and lemon together! ;)5My New Favorite TeaHaving grown up in Australia and then moving to the USA to live, I have long missed a good cup of (hot) tea. But no more! I found PG Tips here at Amazon a while ago and I have been buying them ever since. This is a strong Orange Pekoe tea (basic, medium-grade black tea), much stronger than anything I have found at retail in the US grocery stores. It *will* stain your pot or cups over time, but as many tea drinkers will tell you, this just makes for a better cup of tea. If this becomes unsightly, I take a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads, 8-Count Boxes (Pack of 3) to the inside of the cup to remove the stain. According to the box, PG Tips is a British blend of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan teas. The pyramid shaped bag allows for more water flow and better steeping, which means more tea flavor from each bag. Make sure you boil your water to a rolling boil and steep for at least three minutes for maximum flavor (as with most black teas, longer steep times will result in a bitter taste because the release of tannic acid). I like to drink mine hot with a splash of milk, at all times of the day.Enjoy!5Great Tea!I recently ordered both PG Tips and Taylors Yorkshire Gold because I couldn't decide which one to try first. While I love both teas (please feel free to read my 5 * review of the Yorkshire Gold), each has subtle qualities that make them unique and worthwhile. I love PG Tips for its delicate, aromatic brew - so yummy and soothing! Its flavor is just a tad brighter and perkier than the Yorkshire Gold, so I tend to prefer the PG Tips for an evening brew when I need a late-day pick-me-up, compared to the more robust Yorkshire that I like for a morning brew. But that is strictly my own preference - you may prefer the opposite. Either way, the PG Tips is delicious and delectable, smooth and very flavorful. I even managed to convert my hubby - a lifelong, self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur - to tea with these brands! We haven't fired up the coffee maker in weeks. Anyway, you won't be disappointed. It's been well worth the slightly extra cost to treat ourselves to these two fine teas, especially compared to the domestic teas we had been buying.5A Strong, Bracing CuppaOther reviews are right, this is potent tea, bright and tart. So, if you can't be out on the moors, cold wind blowing, autumn chill refreshing the soul, then you can pretend. This leap of imagination may be even more necessary during the summer's bleak weeks, with heat lambasting the West, furnacing deadly forest fires. We highly recommend this reliable U.K. classic, PG Tips Black Tea, sweetened with Splenda. Years ago, we spend cold months in the U.K., savoring this tea when clouds darkened the horizon and wet leaves scuttled against the windows. For a simple, traditional accompaniment with your PG Tips tea, you may want to try Crawford's Garibaldi Biscuits (also available for a sightly better price with Pennywise (Crawfords) Garibaldi Biscuits), or the rich, spicy Carr's Ginger Lemon Creme cookies. And for vicarious escape to England's North Country, you can't go wrong watching Brenda Blethyn in the Northumbrian mystery series Vera and Vera: Set 2. Enjoy!5Best tea EVERI come from a family of tea drinkers. My parents were tea drinkers, my aunts and uncles were tea drinkers. My daughter caught the bug and she is tea drinker. I've tasted many different teas, but this is by far the best. The flavor is strong, the color is gorgeous. It goes extremely well by itself, as well as sweetened with honey or just plain sugar. It tastes great with key lime juice and honey. It is my favorite with milk and sugar/honey. You've got to try it to believe it. By comparison, American favorite Lipton comes through as bland and somewhat tasteless, or worse - tasting like the tea bag...I highly recommed PG Tips to any serious tea drinker.5I love PG tipsI love PG tips, but, this tea that is now sold to the US, from many providers, as sawdust. I find if I buy it in a grocery store here, now, more available...it is far better tasting than what is provided on (sorry Amazon) on cheaper sites. It is like a sawdust consistence and you can actually feel the difference in the tea, the ones from the grocery store here, feel like tea leaves, whereby, these bags feel like dust. The taste is just not strong at all.Gold PG tips, bought in an English tea shop here, was delightful, as well. I will no longer order this tiea on Amazon...it was wasted money...I gave two pkgs. away and today, opened a new one, appalled at it's taste and that is why. I am stuck with two pkgs that will have to be tossed away.2
