Customer Reviews

Not the best for meI'm sure this brand night splint works well for some, but it really caused a lot of heel pain for me. I purchased two other splints, at the same time, and they both work great for me. Perhaps this splint would be better for someone with a wider foot. The quality was good and it was easy to adjust. 3Try this split before you buy any other splint for planter fasciitis and Achilles tendinitisI have terrible Achilles tendinitis to the point where I am close to tearing my Achilles if I have not toward a portion of it already by putting on this brace it takes away the throbbing that sometimes comes with it it is difficult to sleep with, however I do think very bearable for many people to sleep with. My physical therapist highly recommend this power step is a great night splint for Achilles tendinitis and planter fasciitis that is difficult to heal. 5NopeThe neoprene lining made my leg and foot sweat, and the design made my heel feel like my circulation was being cut off. I tried wearing a sock under it but that didn't really help. I was so aware of something being on my leg that it made it impossible to sleep. I think I have used it fewer than five times. I couldn't tell you whether or not it is effective because it was just too uncomfortable to wear. 1doesn't slip and can be worn to bedThis stays put due to the heel design. It feels tight around the top of my foot, but it really isn't tight at all because I am able to slip my fingers through easily. It's more that I have a bunion that's sensitive, which has nothing to do with the product itself. That part of my foot is a little wide, so a relatively wide foot might be a little snug. I give it 4 stars because although it keeps me from flexing my foot, its angle is less than what I can get with a boot I got from my podiatrist. Also, there isn't enough strap at the top of my foot to wrap around, so it barely gets an edge attached. For a not-so-wide foot, this probably won't be an issue. It hasn't detached yet while I sleep, but a little more length would've been nice. The best part about this splint is that I can sleep in it. I can rest my other foot on top, move from one side to the other, and it stays put and is comfortable. I'm not hitting plastic or having to modify my sleeping positions in any way. It truly is a night splint. 4Not comfortable but easily modifiesHad to make modifications to make it more comfortable. Using it to keep foot 90* while sleeping to heal achilles tendonitis. Acceptable now altered. 4Plantar fascitis - this device helpsWorks well to help me with my plantar fascitis. Too much pressure on my heel, so I folded that part over, and it doesn't fit as well or want to stay in place. Still works. 4Straps hurt my footThe splint keeps my foot in the correct position, but by morning the straps are killing my foot, especially my heel. I've tried three splints so far and am disappointed in all of them. This one keeps my foot positioned best, but I can't make it through the whole night with it. It might be better if I could wear a thick sock for padding, but as I live in Arizona, thick socks are out. 2Definitely worth a try...I would purchase it againThis actually feels like it's doing nothing, but if I can stand to leave it on all night, my heel feels delightfully better (not cured, but I can walk on it with noticeably less pain). The only thing I have to do is wear a loose fitting sock with it. The material that straddles the heel ends up feeling like it's cutting into my skin, it's not, but it is very uncomfortable to the point I have to take the splint off. So, I found if I wear a long sock that isn't too tight around my calf, it will take the "pain" away from that area of my heel, and can sleep in it with no troubles. 4works with some modificationsThis splint is working for me. My plantar fasciitis symptoms are decreasing. It is not too hot or itchy. I can tolerate it all night with a modification to the heel "cup". The circular opening around the heel feels fine when I go to bed but starts cutting into my skin but midway through the night. I had to unstrap that component which was not the end of the world. The other 2 straps provided sufficient dorsi flexion stabilization but not as much as I desire. I made perpendicular cuts in the circular opening where I was getting too much pressure on my skin. This helps and I am comfortable in the brace for the night.Ideally I would like a little more dorsi flexion. This does not hold be at 90 degrees all night. But my symptoms are decreasing. I've been using it about a week. If they don't go in away completely in another week or 2 I will try a brace with a strap to customize the amount of dorsi flexion. Prior to this brace, I tried the sock style splint. It did not work for me at night. In order to get sufficient dorsi flexion it put too much pressure on my great toe. I could not tolerate it at night for more than a couple of hours. My particular "brand" of plantar fasciitis is along the band of fascia going to my great toe so I use the sock brace for a more aggressive and sustained stretch when I will be sitting for an extended period of time ( like right now while I am on the computer). 3Poor design and too tightI love Powerstep's inserts, so I was really hoping I'd like this splint. Unfortunately, it's way too tight (and I wear a 7, right in the middle of the designated range). The calf strap and the ankle straps are okay, but the foot/toe straps have to be significantly tight to close. The problem is that there's only Velcro on one of the straps, so to get the other strap fastened, there has to be overlap. Without pulling and stretching the straps, however, they just barely touch. What I've learned from using night splints over the years is that you have to have adjustability. If you tighten the splint, you almost always wake up in the middle of the night, ripping it off your foot because it's so uncomfortable. Over time, you learn to loosen them just enough for comfort, but still with the ability to keep your foot in dorsiflexion. With the Powerstep splint, however, there's no ability to loosen it. And it's too bad because the splint portion actually fits nicely over my instep, which is a bit high and can be problematic. I also have to wonder how hot it might get over the course of a night, as it does cover quite a bit of the foot. Anyways, I'm going back to my Ovation Hybrid Splint, which I gave a 4-star review. I think I might have to give up looking for a 5-star splint. 1
