Customer Reviews

Please read before ordering, I told you so.I bought one of these months ago from a local store and it is totally awesome. The original one the liquid gets a tiny bit frigid but not frozen. It says cold a long time. Covers a lot if surface area on my poor nagging back. I ordered 2 more because the time to refreeze is longer for any ice pack you need to rotate them for the on/off/on same day. You need a couple. The 2 new ones have a totally different liquid in them. The new ones, the liquid never really setups it and never really feels cold. They are worthless in my opinion. I may go back to a store and look but they may of changed the composition so all you get is a non functional cold compress. I hope they are just a bot lot, as there are not may choices in larger compresses. I rate these as less that ONE STAR! They are going back. 1Beware, this is the "new" version 7" x14". Very inferior to previous one.Beware, the picture is wrong. This is the "new" version that's 7" x14". Very inferior to previous Universal Dual Wrap that was 5" wide. Much less filler material, so not nearly as cold nor does it last as long. Mine oozed out some of the filler material on third use. Getting sent back. Loved the old model, but not this one labeled "new & improved" sigh... 1Dual-Cold + On-the-go/Mobile NO POUCH Rqd. Versatile Speed Healer Industrial quality Velcro wrap strap & handle EZ Stow-n-goSO VERSATILE/Super cold modifiable/use as hot-weather cool/down ***The cold/heat transfer is super fast if you use the slick side so you can get every last bit of chill out of this pack w/o losing lots of the cooling to a fabric/mesh pouches that might sorta-of-hold other cold packs. Use the slick side 1st. or use it before pouch has cooled down to absolute freezer cold as it'll dump the cold it has fast as the elastic velcro will press the slick directly on the skin for great conduction. Very handy in the extra hot summer to finish off an ice session with the leftover cool gel on head or neck/back and casually carried just wrapped around arm or leg or rolled up into a log velcro strapped closed/largely protected by itself. The quality on the seems is great--it IS meant to be pulled around an arm with causes creases. I've 6yrs and no failure although industrial velcro gave it up a while back-so reported leaks are just a tiny fraction of problems reports come with every product/a part of life. It's easy to clean and the direct contact with skin slick or soft side (to prevent skin freeze damage)--but staying in place with the velcro/large elastic strap--is the ticket to easy mobile ice sessions. In the winter or for sensitive areas directly with the soft side-then flip to the slick to get the most out of the pack. I've even let body heat warm the pack from the slick side which seems to speed healing with minor muscle strains via the pumping action of cold calming inflammation/the warmed gel then promoting faster return to normal blood flow that removes toxins/cell damage with needed nourishment.TIP: The pack with heat up/cool down fastest flattened out slick side down to the densest cold substance around. IWO to chill fast, put it in the freezer pressed between two big frozen items (NOT the insulated freezer bottom that's designed to prevent heat transfer) that won't thaw easily. This is MUCH faster than just up on a shelf exposed to the air. Move it to another item or right in front of the chiller vent after 15 min or so. You will be amazed how fast it'll dump the heat and be ready for another sore spot/person/the cooler for travel.Body heat will eventually warm it up w/o risk of burns so at night, after a sore spot is chilled, press slick flat up against your core or another warm part. **be sure to let the chilled area recover needed blood flow and function so as not damage it via too cold too long** As soon as it's body temp or warmer, move back to the therapy item to gently promote its return to oxygenated healing blood flow without triggering more inflammation that a "warm/hot" pack would do. For me, this approach seems to prolong and improve pain relief via gentle moist local heat that doesn't turn off/get too hot (electric pads). I'm not into kidney/liver damage from NSAIDs/Tylenol or other meds' side effects. So for strains/stiff joints/surgery healing, etc. this is my how-to-sleep overnight & speed healer for strained muscles that reduces the need to get up for the switch. The pack also cushions the area via the warm gel so I think it's the greatest thing for a wrist, elbow, ankle. Larger packs are needed for bigger areas and may make you a bit toasty. A very thin pillow case or ultra think wicking material can be helpful during the warming months, but contact with the slick side is what allows the uptake of body heat into a therapy temp. Think of it as a fever the body uses to fight illness, but just at that location.I've had 2 for a total of 6 years and am incredibly surprised they haven't ruptured. I have numerous surgeries from inflammatory disease. I use these more than any other "Pack" as they do a great job transferring the super cold gel while I'm on the go and the other's leaked out. Yes, even the Chatt Brand clay packs break at the seems pretty quickly if you form them around a body part to actually get the cold into your body. These are by far the best I've gotten from any hospital or orthopedic Physical Therapy center. These go great for backaches burns or whatever and velcro-roll up into for easy storage & transit (protects most of the pack from harm) so get a LOT of use. The thing is they haven't leaked which means they are using a good process to make them. My 4 yr old has finally had it's industrial strength velcro not grab so good so I trap it under an arm or leg or pouch/sit still for the therapy-bonus that it's still available. The only thing better would be an easy replacement velcro strap and larger sizes for use along the trunk. They clearly do what they can to make a great product so chalk up any complaints about leaks to even the best manufacturer may get weak material from a supplier.Word to those that use these in a crowded freezer, you may want to keep it in a "freezer grade" storage bag to keep the smell of the freezer and the foods from getting into the soft side. Mine have always cleaned up with gentle soap and I'll toss them back in with a wet handle that eventually dries out with use. The other objection maybe a pack with body oils, perfume, etc. isn't so welcome next to the ice or food eaten out of the wrapper like popsicles ;^0These are really top notch and can be found at half the Azon prices if you look for alternative sellers outside. If you do buy from Azon then they will take them back after 30, you just have to request it/complain. 5Theramed Universal Duel-Temp Cold Pack used with Fla 53-121UNSTD Thermal WrapFirst I have never written a review, so it has be good for me to do so. I had Knee replacement Surgery and my recovery was very hard and long and I needed to ice my knee about 6 times a day. I would use the ice machine that was given to me from the hospital during the day, but at night when I went to bed I needed something that did not make noise and was something that would stay on and around my knee. At first I used the Col-pak and used a towel to wrap it around my knee and after the 20 minutes was up the col-pak was getting warm from my body temperature so if I needed another one I would have to go down stairs and get one.So I bought Fla 53-121UNSTD Thermal Wrap Back & Shoulder Size, Blue selling for $29.38, and the Theramed Universal Duel-Temp Cold Pack (TUDT) selling for $12.50 and used them together. Please note that Fla 53-121UNSTD does comes with it own cold pack and it is ok. The TUDT has two very different sides to it. The white side is extremely cold, where the blue side is just a little bit warmer then the white side. When I am going to bed at night around 10 pm I place the blue side up towards my skin and insert it into the Thermal Wrap and place it on my knee for about 20 minutes, then roll it up so it will stay cold. I stay up and watch tv then around 12:30 am I take the ice pack out of the thermal wrap and place the white side on my knee and wrap the thermal wrap around the ice pack for another 20 minutes. I was so shocked how cold it was after 2 1/12 hours, so I decided to take temperatures of the wrap at different hours so anyone buying this product would know how cold it stays.10 pm 6 degrees, This was when I took it out of the freezer to go to bed11 pm 35 degrees, This was right after I finished icing my knee12:30 am 50 degrees, This was right before I iced my knee for the finally time.I have undergone 30 surgeries and in all of those surgeries I have never found an ice pack and wrap that work so well together and stay so cold for so long. I really hopes this help anyone looking to buy these two products 5Tried 5 different ice packs, this one is the best.i need ice packs for both my ankles and wrists that ache because of hardware pain, sprain, tendonitis and possible carpal tunnel respectively and so I have bought and tried several products:the pro-ice wrist wrap, which isn't very cold (and thus very comfortable to wear, but doesn't last as long), and which really hurt the skin area between my thumb and index fingers. The cvs one, the mueller one, some ankle-specific one that used two ice packs and was super annoying to put on and some ice packs I bought in europe. For wrists and ankles, it is my conclusion that the theramed cold pack is:- The easiest one of the bunch to put on (perfect length rubberband)- The longest lasting (you can reverse it when the fabric side is not cold enough anymore)- The one that covers the most area (very important)the only possible minus is that it doesn't have a replaceable cold pack, but it's just better this way. I've ordered 4 and am returning the cvs and pro-ice packs. I guess I'll keep the mueller since it was so cheap. My wish is that the engineers responsible for this product one day read this review and know that their work was appreciated. 5Not what they advertisedNot happy at all with this product. The cold lasts about 20 min tops. The white side is not soft but the stiff plastic feel and CANNOT be put directly on the skin. I m very disappointed with this item. I would not buy again nor would I recommend it. I would return it but i don t have original box. 1Be Careful! Suffered Burns from white side of Pack!Be careful when using the white side of the cold pack. Although the directions clearly indicate you can use the white side and apply directly to skin for 15 minutes, my husband did this and suffered burns. His skin originally was pale and white when he removed the pack. His skin also was very tight and scrunched up. After a few minutes he had blisters and severe burning pain. 1Great for KneesI had a knee subluxation and icing was getting to be a real pain in the neck. I couldn't get the ice packs to form around the injured areas well and didn't have access to crushed ice etc. Not to mention I was getting fed up with having to fill ice packs, leaks, etc. This thing is great. It stays flexible and cold enough to mold pretty well around the injury and is really useful for about 30 minutes..after that its not cold enough to be super useful. The strap just goes on one end and then you can warp around the injured area and secure in place with the velco strap. Freezes up again within an hour. It has two sides, the fuzzy blue keeps the gel side off your skin but I put an additional layer in to protect my skin from direct contact. On a small area like ankle or knee the strap applies some compression but you may need to use ace an bandages to secure it depending where you place it. If you are going to be doing the R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation) thing for an injury for awhile, I highly recommend getting something like this..it just makes life easier. 5Leaks at the seamsI bought six of these, one came leaking for which I got refunded and the others leaked after a couple of weeks. It appears that the seam they put in to keep the gel distributed in the pack have caused the plastic to get brittle so they leak at those seams. Too embarrassed to send them all back since I claimed the first one right away. 1Great idea but leaksI bought 2 of these separately, I ice my angle on a regular basis, because I'm recovering from a broken ankle. I needed something that I could move around with. These are great for getting the coldness that you want as they get really cold and they have a strap that velcros to hold them on you which makes it easy to move around. However after a couple uses both of the ones I bought started oozing a white substance from inside I tried to return them but they don't allow returns so I've been wrapping them with grocery bags in order to use them. 3
