The best compression socks I have foundI really like these compression stockings. They arrived on time and as described.I've tried other compression socks that either were too tight and uncomfortable or that cut off my circulation at the ends. These are a little long for me, but I knew that when I ordered them (as described) an I am able to pull them not quite so tight in a couple of areas and it is a non issue. They are very snug and definitely compress, helping with the edema in my legs but I can wear them for hours and the bands at the top and bottom don't feel like they are choking my legs. 5O.K. with open-toe sandals - HANDY OPTION for those who need it!Reason for buying:I bought these as a gift for my Mother. Her cardiologist recommended she go UP from a 20-30 compression tothe next category. Her varicose veins give her a great deal of pain and in addition, compression stockings are a must for heron flights to avoid Deep Vein Thrombosis. Finally, she was told that she's got to wear compression stockings or socks every day and all day. This was upsetting for someone who lives in sandals and slides. I tell you - old age is not for the faint of heart! The thigh-high stockings didn't work well and the waist-high pantihose version even less so: occasional kidney problems make it imperative that whatever compression stockings she wears removes easily and quickly. I had to find compression stockings that could be worn with open-toed sandals and slides WITHOUT looking too obvious. What we found:She liked the look of them but COULD NOT get the stockings on her foot. Not the stocking's fault, of course. Despite the cardiologist's recommendation of a 30-40 compression, we're taking her back down to something more manageable; something she can actually slide onto her feet.Since I travel with compression socks, I requisitioned this pair and they felt fine. You've got to roll them on slowly and carefully and position the seam just right. I hated the aesthetics of these and had to remind myself that they weren't designed for beauty - merely utility. The toe area rode up a bit (I wore these with Clark's open-toe sandal) but a little adjusting helped. This will come in handy for summer trips by plane or when there's a long bout of summer walkabouts in humid weather. I really try not to use compression stockings too much for fear I'll get used to them and once you cross THAT Rubicon, it's a slippery slope.I will update the review again post-Summer.Thank you for taking time to read this review about a pedestrian (but useful) item. I hope it was helpful to you. 5Don't eyeball your sizeI initially bought a 2 XL as some stockings don't accomodate my calves. They were great until after a couple of uses even hand wash they seemed to expand longer. Like it would bind up behind my knee. I went ahead and bought a size smaller, same effect. But now the foot section was a bit too tight. So I'm on to shopping again. I have medical thigh high compression stockings as I am treating my varicose veins, but I was looking for something in the form of knee high open toe stocks that are comfortable. 4Socks work great for me!Being told by the Doc that I need to wear compression socks every day the rest of my life (I'm 58) for my vascular issue wasn't what I wanted to hear because I know the potential cost to me of buying socks regularly. My local Clinic "Store" had 30-40 compression socks for $90 a pair. I took a chance on this sock and I'm sold. I've only had them 2 weeks so we'll see how much life I get out of them, but so far, so good. Yes, they take a little extra work to put on but that only means they are working. Trust the measurements (ankle & calf) you carefully take. 5Difficult to use ... in my case.I have used compression stockings before. I could put them on fairly smoothly (even though I can only reach down to mid-calf area on each leg) ... the key to getting the stockings on was using an "EZY-AS" device (Google it, you'll be glad you did). But through the day, my toes would begin to hurt and cramp from the pressure of the stockings at the toe. So I thought toe-less would be the way to go. Well ... not at all. Using my EZY-AS device, I could get them on, and they felt great at the calf, but there was no way at all to get them to fit just right at the toes. Obviously, I'm a person who can't reach his toes, but I could put other stockings on just fine. I guess what I'm looking for is a stocking that has far less compression at the toes. Bottom line -- I won't be able to wear these. 2These are the most comfortable compression socks I have ever wornThese are the most comfortable compression socks I have ever worn. Not hot, don't roll down from the top. When I first got these and tried them on, I thought they would be too tight, but hours later I had forgotten I had them on.Usually knee highs are too long and pinch me behind the knee, but these don't. I have ordered a second pair for long roadtrips and flights, they really help with swelling and fatigue. The open toe design is great for summer sandals 5Learn your size and compression rating before buying or even accepting from your doctor! As far as I can tell, these are the best compression stockings made--and I had to do a LOT of research. Even so, they didn't fit; blame for that, however, belongs at the door of orthopedists who are geniuses about bones but idiots about soft tissue. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED A STOCKING THAT FITS. One that doesn't is virtually guaranteed to do more harm than good. That you shouldn't wear a stocking that's too small will be immediately obvious, but shorties always tend to be overlooked unless we're loud. I wound up phoning Truform for a consultation, and was advised that 1) "knee high" and "below the knee" are synonyms (good to know); 2) I needed a small SHORT (could not find on Amazon [again, shorties overlooked]); and 3) "firm"--i.e., 30-40, was WAY too tight for my situation. So I ordered a Small Short 20-30 with an open toe from a different supplier Truform recommended, and the difference was the difference between hurting more and hurting less. Therefore, insist that your doctor be specific. Don't let him or her just hand you a pair whose heel will come to your knee, whose top will come to your crotch and, and whose cost, even after your insurance pays its bit, will be twice what you'll pay at Amazon or the site Truform sent me to. 4These are not 30-40 mmHg.I took them to my lymphedema therapist at Kaseman Hospital Presbyterian Rehabilitation Services yesterday and was told they are 15-20 mmHg at maximum. I was shown what real 30-40mmHg looks like, they can practically stand on their own. This item is slightly stiff stockings with light compression. I additionally learned that the claim of any mmHg is random by any commercial manufacturer, as mmHg is not a regulated expression of compression. If you want true 30-40mmHg, go to an orthotic supplier in your area. 1Great AlternativeThese knee-highs are the solution to the lymphedema swelling in my ankles, calves, and feet. I tried 3 pairs of Jobst thigh-highs before realizing that the knee-high works best for me. Although I do have large varicosities all the way up my legs, the thigh levels were just too tight and painful. These still provide the strong compression I need without the behind the knee pain often associated with thigh highs. They are very long and I have very long legs. I am 5'7", I weigh 175 and I ordered a medium. I wear them every day and hand-wash them every other. I've had them for about a month and not even a blip in the fabric. Very sturdy. I do have thin legs and these are perfect. I'd have given a 5 star, except for the length in the foot cuff. It tends to roll when I put on my shoes. They could be tighter there. The fabric, compression level, and sturdiness are better than Jobst, IMO. 4
