Customer Reviews

Nice easy flavor -- no bitter off notesI used to drink Twinings English Breakfast tea but since converting to Ty-phoo tea I am enjoying my cuppas more than ever. There are no bitter tannin notes in this tea and its really flavorful whether piping hot with milk or almost cooled down all the way. One teabag is plenty strong enough for 1 cup of water and the fact that there are no bitter flavors means I can drink it to the last drop. I wish it was available with strings attached so I could dangle it in my tea cup and then discard but that's my only gripe. I've learned to drink around the teabag in my cup when I (frequently at work) can't find a fork or a spoon to fish the teabag out.5Drink 3-4 cups a day. Nuff said!I needed to cut down on my caffeine a bit but love drinking tea during the day. I start my mornings with Pg tips so tried their decaf but did t love and it seemed to give me low grade headaches (not caff withdrawal, happened even when I had at other times as an extra cup of tea in the day). So I tried typhoo decaf and it tastes so like PG tips regular I don t feel like I m drinking decaf. And no headaches with this. Not sure what the difference is but I still start my day with caffeinated PG Tips then drink Typhoo decaf for remainder of my tea for the day, however many cuppas that might be ;). This is the best deal I could find so I order a set of three every few months, just double checking prices each time.5Compared to many other decaf teas, this is a five star cup of teaI keep trying to find a decaf that offers flavor at, or near, the level of regular tea. Also, I drink my tea unsweetened about half the time and sweetened the rest of the time, and drink both hot tea and ice tea very frequently (I have both a cup of hot tea and ice tea beside me as I am writing this- I drink a crazy amount of tea). I have been drinking PG Tips decaf for several years, but PG Tips decaf that I purchased in the last couple of years has not been as flavorful to me as it was four or five years ago. In fact, I used to drink PG Tips without sweetener most of the time after trying many brands, but lately I have had to sweeten PG Tips to enjoy it and would rather have one I can enjoy unsweetened. This prompted me to go searching for a new decaf tea and this Ty Phoo is more flavorful to me than the PG Tips. I like it a lot.Typhoo tea bags do not appear to contain as much tea as the PG Tips pyramid bag, but it sure seems to brew up as strong or more so, on a bag to bag comparison. I am also awaiting a Barry's decaf to try and hope it will be as good or better than the Ty Phoo. The regular Barry's has a lot of caffeine and is very strong tea. Maybe I will update this review when I have a chance to compare to Ty Phoo.Update: I have now tried the Barry's decaf and the Bewley's decaf (I am always seeking a better cup of tea!). The Barry's has a stronger flavor profile than Ty Phoo, but not necessarily better taste to me. I prefer the Barry's sweetened to cover up a slight off flavor, but I prefer the Ty Phoo unsweetened. The Bewley's was okay, but my least favorite of the four I have mentioned in this review. Everyone's taste is different, but I would buy Ty Phoo, Barry's and PG Tips without hesitation an appreciate the variety they offer. The Bewley's has plenty of flavor, but I definitely prefer it sweetened to cover a slightly less desirable flavor component somewhere in the blend. Taylors of Harrowgate Yorkshire decaf is on its way, so I have another to compare soon!5We can finally drink tea in the eveningAs tea enthusiasts who can no longer tolerate sleepless nights with caffeine, we find this to be the BEST decaf tea. We feel that all other decaf teas we have tried do not have the good, strong, black tea flavor that we like. The flavor is usually removed along with the caffeine. This tea manages to keep the flavor of a regular tea, or at least very close to it. Nothing will ever be as good as regular tea leaves, but this comes close. It steeps dark and red, a good English tea. The packages were also fresh and sealed. Our local grocery store that carries it sells it for quite a bit more than Amazon, so we will continue to get it from Amazon.5Great DecafI love tea and have been drinking it since I was in kindergarten (not sure what mom was thinking). I am not a coffee drinker. However, I have problems with migraines and joint pain, so I can't drink caffeine. For me, this is a big deal. For a coffee drinker, finding a good cup of decaf is not impossible. For us tea drinkers, it is the holy grail. So, let me start by saying that if you wish to have that perfect cup of tea, don't even bother looking for a decaf tea. Now, having said that, this is as close as I can find. I have tried almost all of them. The only thing I have found better, was a loose tea, from some small tea shop in London. Since I can't fly there every week to get my tea, Typhoo is a great substitute. To wean off caffeine I used a commercial name brand caffeinated tea from the supermarket (you know, the stuff that looks grey in a cup). The Typhoo decaf was actually better. That helps because by the time I was down to one or two cups of caffeine a day of the supermarket stuff, I looked forward to a good cup of tea with Typhoo. It will get bitter if left too long, similar to a cup of Irish Breakfast. If you like milk in your tea, try "SO Delicious" coconut creamer. It does not taste like coconut and it does not mask the tea as much as milk. This is important for decaf tea. It is nice to have this delivered to my house as well. 40 bags are sealed in foil and then the box is sealed. This is important for taste as well. I can open 40 at a time and place it in a canister. The rest go in my pantry till I need them. great way to make sure I don't run out!5Maltiest decaf you can buyMade to be enjoyed with milk, Typhoo is a blended tea made for the cold and wet British weather. The natural decaf process does not remove any flavor that I've noticed and it has a good "mouth feel". Assam tea is one of the components of Typhoo tea and that's what lends it a slightly smokey and malty flavor. One teabag makes a good 2 1/2 cup pot with plenty of body the longer you steep it. I've often forgotten that I had this tea brewing, well over the 5 minute brew time I usually go for, yet it does not become bitter. Again, this is a British blend made to be enjoyed with milk. If you prefer it straight you should brew it for a shorter time of 3 - 4 minutes. It is best to warm up your teapot or mug before adding your boiled water and Typhoo Decaf teabag. This way, the high temp of the water goes towards brewing this black tea instead of losing some of it's heat to a cold teapot or mug. Trust me, it does make a difference.A great decaf tea any time of day or night. I've been an avid fan since 1973.5If you want the flavour without the caffeine buzz this is the tea for you.Ty-Phoo decaf tea is, in my opinion, one of the best flavoured decaffeinated teas available. One tea bag will make a nice 14 fl oz mug of tea, with a good strong colour that takes milk well and tastes really good. I sampled this tea against Taylors Decaf Breakfast Tea, Taylors Decaf Yorkshire tea (shipped from the UK) and Tetley British Blend Decaff tea. All the teas in the tasting session had been made with 14 fl oz of boiling water and brewed for 4 minutes. The runner up was the Yorkshire tea, but shipping from the UK takes weeks. The Breakfast tea and British Blend were insipid lightly coloured and flavourless. In practice one needs to use two bags for this amount of water, doubling the effective cost, and still end up with a weak tea.If you're a tea drinker who has been advised to give up caffeine this is the tea for you. Also, this ships from within the USA so delivery is more reliable.5Switched product with inferior quality for same price!!We have been ordering the TY-phoo Decaf tea for some time now and like the robust taste of it. When we needed to reorder we accessed our last order on our Amazon account and followed the re-order procedure. When we received the 3 boxes of TY-Phoo Decaf we noticed the following :1. The new box had a net weight of 160 GR instead of our previous shipments which were each 232 GR (That is 31% LESS tea, which was noticeable in both the Tea bag contents and the taste.)2. The new boxes lacked the green Rain Forest Alliance Certification.3. To get the same robust taste you have to use two of the new tea bags making the new shipment twice as expensive as the previous shipment.(Boxes cost the same)The vendor has a "No Returns" policy which means we are "stuck" with this new batch.Looking for an alternative Decaf Teat at this point2I LOVE this stuffI LOVE this stuff! It is the absolute BEST tea I've ever had and I drink it exclusively. The best part is the price--ONE box at Bed, Bath & Beyond was $8.99, and this is THREE boxes for $17.99! It is a full bodied tea, especially for a decaf, and I make gallons of ice tea with it with just hot tap water, let it sit on the counter until it comes to room temp. and remove the bags and refrigerate. What could be easier? Instant tea foams up, but since this infuses, it is so much better. I don't sweeten my ice tea, so that's all I have to do! Perfect full strength every time!5Great Decaf Option for Tea LoversMy cardiologist told me to lay off the caffeine, so I desperately went about trying to make a proper pitcher of strong, sweet iced tea, per my Southern Midwest upbringing requirements, without the caffeine.I got pretty close -- I was using Twinings Decaf Irish Breakfast Tea up until now -- but it was never quite the same. To me, decaf just always seems to be... lacking. On a whim I went looking for better/stronger options. That is how I first learned about Typhoo, and was thrilled to find it on Amazon. For a decaf option, this is definitely the best I have found yet. It brews up strong and dark, with no bitterness. I have served it at many dinner occasions to date, and it has passed muster every time. In fact, my boyfriend drank it for months and was very surprised to discover it had been decaf all along.I still want to give PG Tips Decaf a whirl, but this bulk pack ensures I will be swimming in Typhoo for quite awhile... ah well!5
